About
An experienced and results-driven Service Centre Supervisor is required to oversee the daily operations of a steel processing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing personnel, machinery, production schedules, quality standards, safety compliance, and operational efficiency within the Service Centre.
This role requires a strong technical background in the steel industry, hands-on leadership skills, and a proven ability to improve productivity, streamline processes, and maximize equipment utilization.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operations of the Service Centre.
- Manage and accurately record incoming materials and all return-to-stock materials.
- Supervise the selection and allocation of input materials to meet production requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive handovers with the Night Shift Supervisor to ensure seamless operational continuity.
- Coordinate and manage all steel processing activities, including guillotining, shearing, cutting, band saw operations, and related processing functions.
- Assist with band saw operations when required.
- Ensure production schedules are achieved safely, efficiently, and within required deadlines.
- Monitor workflow and allocate labour and equipment to maximize productivity and throughput.
- Lead, motivate, coach, train, and supervise Service Centre personnel.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement practical process improvements to increase efficiency and operational performance.
- Ensure machinery is operated safely, correctly, and in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer specifications.
- Work closely with the maintenance team to minimise equipment downtime and ensure preventative maintenance schedules are completed.
- Monitor quality standards to ensure all processed material complies with customer specifications.
- Drive waste reduction initiatives and optimise material utilisation.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and company policies.
- Prepare and submit regular production, efficiency, machine utilisation, and performance reports to management.
- Assist with production planning, capacity planning, and continuous operational improvement initiatives.
- Maintain high housekeeping and workplace organisation standards throughout the Service Centre.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years' supervisory or management experience within a steel service centre, steel processing, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of steel products and steel processing operations.
- Practical experience operating and supervising guillotines, shears, cutting equipment, band saws, and related machinery.
- Proven ability to lead production teams and consistently achieve operational targets.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices within an industrial environment.
- Knowledge of steel sheet and plate products will be advantageous.
- Proficient in the use of measuring equipment, including verniers and micrometres.
- Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and production reporting systems.
- Valid driver's licence.

Preferred Experience
- Experience within steel distribution, steel processing, or manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or productivity improvement programmes.
- Experience monitoring and improving productivity, machine utilisation, throughput, labour efficiency, and production performance.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and production reporting.
- Experience with stock control, material flow, inventory management, and production planning
