About the position

Responsibilities / Key Tasks

  • Maintain and enhance existing functionality, while designing and developing new components to support evolving business needs.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the current product architecture and business domain, collaborating with business analysts to refine requirements and implement high quality solutions.
  • Refactor, optimise, and modernise codebases to ensure long term maintainability, scalability, and adaptability to future requirements.
  • Assess and improve application performance, reliability, and high availability capabilities across all environments.
  • Create comprehensive unit tests and integrated system tests to validate that new and existing functionality operates as intended. Support testing processes by developing and executing functional test scenarios during development.
  • Produce clear and detailed technical documentation outlining system architecture, components, and operational guidelines.
  • Conduct in depth root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and resolve defects within complex, integrated systems.
  • Build, package, and deploy applications onto application servers or cloud platforms, ensuring smooth and reliable release cycles.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to continuous improvement of development standards, practices, and processes.


Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or Matric with more than 8-10 years of hands-on development experience within a custom software development environment, with multiple production releases per year.
  • Strong proficiency in .NET C#, with proven expertise in developing enterprise grade web applications. (VB an advantage)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Senior Web Developer in a multi-tiered .NET application environment, and at least 10 years of experience as a Front-End Developer.
  • Practical experience with modern web technologies, including JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, ASP.NET, HTML5, and React.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful frameworks, with experience working with JSON and XML-based data exchange.
  • Working knowledge of web application security principles, including common vulnerabilities and best-practice prevention techniques.
  • Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work within cross functional teams and translate use cases or user stories into intuitive user interfaces.
  • Comprehensive understanding of SDLC methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall, along with associated tools, processes, and best practices.

 
Experience with the Following Technologies

  • Angular (Version 6 and above) with strong proficiency in building scalable, component based front end applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of ASP.NET and C# .NET, including deep understanding of JavaScript, CSS, XML, TypeScript and HTML.
  • Practical experience working with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), preferably IIS 7 and later.
  • Demonstrated integration experience using SOAP and RESTful web services.
  • Strong understanding of XML and JSON message structures, including namespace management, schema utilisation, and structured data handling.
  • Solid experience with SQL and relational database development, specifically Microsoft SQL Server (2008 and later) and Azure SQL.
  • Proficient in API testing and validation using SoapUI and Postman.
  • Candidates must have prior experience using source control/version control software, such as Microsoft Visual SourceSafe, Git, Azure DevOps
  • Repos, or other industry standard tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft development toolsets, including:
  • Visual Studio
  • IIS 7+
  • SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS 2012+)
  • SOAP/REST service development and debugging tools

.NET Framework Expertise

  • Extensive experience working with the .NET Core framework, including designing, deploying, and operating applications within Azure-native environments.

 
RESTful Web Services

  • Proven track record in designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs, adhering to REST principles and ensuring endpoint scalability, security, and high performance.

 
Azure Cloud Proficiency

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of multiple Azure cloud implementations completed within the last three years.

 
Security Standards & Vulnerabilities

  • Strong experience identifying and resolving web-based security vulnerabilities, with solid knowledge of the OWASP Top Ten and hands-on collaboration with cybersecurity teams.

  • Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale web applications with substantial active user bases, including solutions involving user registration, secure access control, role management, transactional processing, and integrated payment mechanisms.

 
Industry Experience

  • Experience in financial services and tax-related systems, with exposure to environments such as eFiling considered an advantage.

 
DevOps

  • Working knowledge of Azure DevOps processes, including pipeline configuration, release management, and cloud-based development workflows.

 
Production Diagnostics

  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving production issues related to application performance and transactional failures. Able to operate effectively under pressure by rapidly reviewing activity logs and application logs to drive issues to meaningful resolution.

  • Provides guidance to development teams on best-practice implementation approaches that align with established architectural patterns and functional standards.
