About the position
We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems Developer to join a long-term healthcare technology environment, responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting business-critical applications.
The ideal candidate will have strong PHP/LAMP, SQL, systems development and integration experience, together with proven exposure to E-Health applications and HL7/FHIR.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities
- Perform systems development and enhancement to various in-house developed health-related business applications.
- Conduct advanced business systems analysis.
- Execute advanced data analytics and prepare dashboard and management reports.
- Collaborate with the team to design, develop, and implement applications aligned with business requirements and technical specifications.
- Analyse and translate complex business requirements into well-structured technical solutions.
- Rapidly learn and adapt to healthcare-specific concepts and business processes.
- Conduct code reviews, develop test plans, and perform unit, automated, and regression testing.
- Ensure systems documentation is kept up to date.
- Interact with customers for fault resolution and training on new and modified applications.
- Liaise with Business teams, Application Support, and IT teams to identify and resolve issues.
- Assist with training users.
- Mentor junior developers and assist other developers in areas they are less familiar with.
- Plan, organise, and control own work effort, including regular progress feedback to relevant areas.
- Perform any other related tasks as required by the line manager.
Technical Requirements
- LAMP Stack Development: Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP.
- HTML: Hypertext Markup Language.
- PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor.
- SQL: Structured Query Language, including complex queries.
- Database Design and Management.
- Advanced JavaScript Programming.
- XML (Extensible Markup Language).
- Object-Oriented Development.
- Data Analysis using tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
- Development of customised web-based reports and dashboards.
- Azure Virtual Server Design and Administration.
- Advanced Linux server administration.
- HL7 Coding and Systems Integration via Mirth/NextGen.
- Sound knowledge of the South African Health Normative Standard Framework and underlying profiles and technologies.
- Use of Microsoft DevOps environment.
Functional Requirements
- Knowledge of the development of E-Health applications.

Minimum Qualification and Experience
- Degree/National Diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology with at least 9 years of experience in information systems design and development.
OR
- Grade 12 with at least 11 years of experience in information systems design and development.

- Experience in application configuration, maintenance, and support: 9 years.
- Systems integrations: 5 years.
- Strong understanding of front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, XML, PHP): 9 years.
- Experience with responsive web design and accessibility standards: 9 years.
- Knowledge of backend technologies (APIs, database management using SQL databases): 9 years.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, Amazon): 5 years.
- Expertise in handling and processing large datasets: 9 years.
- Experience with data integration tools and technologies (ETL, data warehousing, data analytics frameworks): 9 years.
- Strong understanding of security best practices (data encryption, secure coding, authentication, authorisation, compliance with ICT regulations): 9 years.
- Strong debugging skills and familiarity with debugging tools: 9 years.
- Understanding of healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR): 3 years.
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR), Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and/or electronic health patient-centric systems: 3 years.
- Awareness of healthcare workflows and processes (patient management, billing, insurance processing): 3 years.
- Familiarity with integrating health applications with other systems (HL7 interfaces, APIs for clinical systems): 3 years.
- Experience with interoperability protocols (HL7, DICOM, FHIR): 3 years.
- Strong analytical skills to understand complex requirements and design efficient solutions: 9 years.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, mentor junior developers, and collaborate with other departments: 9 years.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members and vice versa: 9 years.
