Senior Scientist - Secunda

About the position

Our client in the mining industry is seeking a Senior Scientist to drive innovative solutions, manage quality, tackle challenges, and uphold the company's reputation. The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Operational Planning & Compliance:

• Contribute to departmental plans, track performance, and ensure compliance with local and corporate standards while promoting ethical conduct.

Policy, Process & Systems Management:

• Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and systems, ensuring process efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Technical & Laboratory Management:

• Manage laboratory operations, including testing, quality management, and technical documentation.
• Provide technical sales and client support, including material analysis, test methods, and product data.
• Conduct R&D to improve products, processes, and compliance with product stewardship and regulatory requirements.

Financial & Risk Management:

• Develop budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement risk mitigation strategies, supporting disaster recovery planning.

SHE Management:

• Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards.

Stakeholder & Service Provider Engagement:

• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, overseeing service provider performance and resolving issues.

People Management:

• Recruit, mentor, and manage staff performance, ensuring resource availability and adherence to HR policies.

Requirements

• BSc Hons in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (From a reputable institution)
• 5-7 years in explosives or mining lab environment
• 5 years in R&D and quality testing/reporting
• 5-7 years in a management role
