About the position

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• A relevant Engineering Degree or equivalent
• BEng/ BSc Eng/ BTech (Civil Eng)
• Must be registered as Pr. Eng / Pr. Tech with ECSA

EXPERIENCE

• 08+ years' experience in Civil Engineering Consulting
• Experience in Roads & Transport Engineering Design
• Experience in Site-based work

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Technical Skills & Knowledge)

• Knowledge of Roads & Transport Engineering Design
• Knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety laws and regulations
• Proficient in Microsoft office. Microsoft Projects, Auto CAD, Civil 3D, Infraworks, HECRAS, EPANET, Model Maker, Civil Designer, Stormwater Software.
• Project Management knowledge
• Business Acumen
• Problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of ISO 9001
• Budgeting and Cost management skill

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Design and prepare preliminary and final plans for highways, bridges, drainage structures, municipal utilities, roadway lighting, traffic control devices, intelligent transportation systems and miscellaneous road facilities.
• Ensure the estimation of project cost, drawing-up of contracts and developing of specifications for labour, material, and equipment.
• Investigate and monitor traffic flow, safety and conditions and develop and make recommendations on the improvement and the traffic management policies and procedures.
• Develop preliminary engineering treatments to determine construction feasibility and estimated cost.
• Prepares final layout drawings and stress calculations.
• Recommend construction methods best suited to soil types encountered.
• Discuss plans, specifications, and works schedules with contractors, utility companies and other governmental agencies.
• Ensure the survey, staking, layout, and inspection of construction projects.
• Ensure the set-up of the project and project meetings.
• Ensure project reviews, quality assurance, cost control, health & safety and invoicing of the project.
• Prepare a Close-out report.
• Compile a project budget and monitoring thereof to optimise cost savings and/or profit margins.
• Apply and Adhere to all Quality Management Procedures
• Implement and monitor Cost Management Measures.
• Support, Mentor and Guide Junior & Graduate Engineers
• Road & Transport Engineering Designs and Plans
