About the position
We are looking for a Senior Resident Engineer (with 15 or more years experience in construction supervision or management) to join a leading consulting engineering firm on a large scale civil and mining construction project in Limpopo.
The expected contract duration is 30 months.
The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, sound communication skills to manage a diverse group of stakeholders, rigorous focus on quality control, solution driven attitude and hands-on site supervision to ensure works are delivered safely, regulatory compliant, and to specification.
The successful candidate will manage the engineer’s quality control site team, coordinate various contractors, facilitate compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations and ensure that all works align with the Engineer’s project specifications and the company objectives.
Requirements:
- Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Building Technology.
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in construction supervision, monitoring or management.
- Professional registration with ECSA or SACPCMP.
- Proven track record in monitoring greenfield or brownfield mine development or large civil infrastructure projects.
- Extensive experience in construction quality assurance processes and systems.
- Understanding of standard form construction contracts like NEC, FIDIC, GCC, etc.
- Experience in earthworks, concrete structures, structural steel, pump and pipeline, as well as mechanical, electrical and instrumentation installation coordination.
- Previous exposure to projects regulated by the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 and Regulations
- Valid SA driver’s license is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ability to lead and manage a team of resident engineers, assistants and other site staff responsible for quality assurance, design verification, environmental control, etc.
- Coordinate resources and facilitate efficient stakeholder communication.
- Liaise with the design team based in our office to ensure any design deviations are clearly identified, recoded and communicated, and that the appropriate action recommended by the designers is implemented.
- Manage all on-site construction supervision activities.
- Ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, contracts, and statutory requirements.
- Review and give input to the contractor’s Quality Control Plan, ensuring that activities and milestones align with the project’s design intent and minimum requirements stated by the design engineer.
- Enforce QMS and QA/QC procedures.
- Ensure that RFIs, TQs, material approvals, shop drawings, and method statements are reviewed and responded to in consultation with designers.
- Ensure that materials and workmanship are inspected and all testing results are reviewed and approved.
- Manage and record all non-conformances and deviations through to close-out.
- Assist the consultant’s contracts manager with relevant contract administration activities.
- Monitor contractor performance against programmes and milestones.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Maintain up to date and accurate site records, correspondence, and variations throughout the project.
- Attend and document site and stakeholder meetings.
- Ensure the team of resident engineers give input on work completed for interim payment certificates and verify that quantities claimed align with progress achieved.
- Support commissioning, snagging, and final handover.
- Manage the project close-out process, including facilitation of data pack collation, redline drawing mark-ups and contribute to as-built documentation.
