About the position
ENVIRONMENT:
EMBED quality into delivery and improving confidence in system releases as the next Senior Quality Engineer sought by an innovative Financial Services Platform. You will take ownership of how testing is approached across teams, shifting from manual, end-stage testing toward practical, automation-led, and risk-based quality practices. The role requires a balance of strong technical capability, sound judgement, and the ability to influence how teams build and release software. You must have 6+ years of Software Testing and Quality Engineering experience including proficiency with Playwright, Cypress, or similar automation frameworks & working knowledge of CI/CD practices. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role with technical leadership scope. You will not manage a team, but you will set the technical direction for quality across the Engineering portfolio and be accountable for the outcomes that direction produces.
DUTIES:
Quality Engineering & Test Design -
- Design and implement effective testing approaches across UI, API, and data layers.
- Establish and apply a structured test strategy aligned to system risk and business impact.
- Ensure testing focuses on critical user journeys rather than test volume.
- Contribute directly to test design and implementation where required.
- Ensure significant deliverables have structured test plans traceable to acceptance criteria.
Automation & Tooling -
- Build and maintain automated test suites across Unit, Integration, API, and end-to-end layers.
- Improve reliability, speed, and maintainability of test automation.
- Reduce reliance on Manual Regression through practical automation.
- Identify and eliminate flaky or redundant tests.
- Drive test layering decisions to ensure the right tests exist at the right level.
System Quality & Risk Management -
- Identify quality risks across both legacy and newer systems.
- Ensure appropriate test coverage for high-risk and high-change areas.
- Support defect analysis and root cause identification.
- Feed findings back into engineering practices to prevent recurrence.
- Improve confidence in releases through structured validation approaches.
Delivery Integration & DevOps Alignment -
- Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines for faster feedback.
- Define practical test execution approaches.
- Define and enforce release readiness criteria and quality gates.
- Work closely with Engineering and DevOps teams during releases.
- Support efficient and stable deployment processes.
Standards, Metrics & Continuous Improvement -
- Establish testing standards and quality best practices.
- Promote consistency across Delivery teams.
- Develop meaningful Engineering quality metrics.
- Improve testing processes based on delivery experience.
- Support shared ownership of quality within Delivery teams.
Shift-Left & Capability Uplift -
- Partner with Developers so tests are created alongside code.
- Review test quality in pull requests.
- Share testing patterns, tooling knowledge, and lessons learned.
- Reduce key-person dependency through documentation and knowledge sharing.
AI-Assisted Testing -
- Apply AI-assisted tooling for test generation, test data creation, defect triage, and risk-based prioritization.
- Evaluate emerging AI Testing tools.
- Demonstrate measurable productivity gains from AI-assisted approaches.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ Years of Software Testing and Quality Engineering experience.
- Experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar automation frameworks.
- Strong API Testing and integration validation capability.
- Understanding of risk-based testing and test design principles.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD practices.
- Experience defining and enforcing quality gates.
- Experience in real-world Delivery teams and production environments.
- Ability to diagnose defects, flaky tests, and unstable environments.
- Experience improving existing QA practices.
- Pragmatic approach to balancing Manual and Automated Testing.
- Proven reduction of Manual Regression effort through automation.
Tools & Technologies -
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Playwright (preferred), Cypress, or similar
- Postman or equivalent API Testing tools
- Git-based source control
- GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar CI/CD tooling
- Coverage and quality reporting tools
