About the position

ENVIRONMENT:
A provider of innovative Digital Solutions is looking for a Senior Project Manager who is responsible for leading complex software implementation projects and strategic programmes from initiation through successful closure while ensuring commercial performance, governance compliance, client satisfaction and operational excellence.

The role provides leadership across multiple concurrent projects, manages executive stakeholder relationships, oversees project financial performance, drives delivery quality and mentors project managers across the department. The Senior Project Manager ensures projects are delivered within approved scope, schedule, budget and quality standards while supporting the strategic objectives of the company and its clients.  Success in this role is measured through profitable project delivery, strong client relationships, governance compliance, high-performing project teams and consistent achievement of departmental Implementation & Delivery KPIs.

DUTIES:

  • Lead multiple concurrent software implementation projects and strategic programmes throughout the complete project lifecycle.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans covering scope, schedule, resources, budget, quality and governance requirements.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within approved budgets and according to agreed quality standards.
  • Manage project interdependencies across multiple workstreams and delivery teams.
  • Monitor project health continuously and implement corrective actions where delivery performance declines.
  • Support strategic programme planning aligned to organisational objectives.
  • Own financial performance across assigned projects.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts and financial reporting.
  • Monitor project profitability and implement corrective actions where commercial performance falls below approved targets.
  • Control project expenditure and manage cost variances.
  • Review project resource utilisation to maximise delivery efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate project timesheets support financial reporting and profitability analysis.
  • Support invoice approvals and commercial reporting.
  • Act as the primary relationship manager for senior client stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Build trusted partnerships with executive client representatives.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations through proactive communication.
  • Facilitate Steering Committee meetings and executive governance forums.
  • Present project status, delivery performance, commercial performance, risks and recommendations to executive stakeholders.
  • Manage client escalations professionally and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Support long-term client success and user adoption following implementation.
  • Ensure all projects comply with the company’s  project governance standards.
  • Maintain complete project documentation, audit trails and version-controlled records.
  • Ensure contractual obligations, Statements of Work, Service Level Agreements and approved project scope are fully managed.
  • Lead formal project change control processes.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation including POPIA and public-sector governance requirements.
  • Prepare projects for internal and external audits where required.
  • Drive consistent delivery excellence across assigned projects.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet agreed acceptance criteria before client sign-off.
  • Reduce project rework through effective planning, quality assurance and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor implementation quality and recommend improvements to delivery practices.
  • Support successful user adoption through collaboration with Implementation Consultants and Change Management resources.
  • Ensure training activities are completed before solution deployment.
  • Lead post-implementation reviews and capture lessons learned.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Junior and Intermediate Project Managers.
  • Coach project teams in project management methodology, governance and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support capability development across the Project Management practice.
  • Promote collaboration across Project Management, Business Analysis, Engineering, Product, Customer Support and Implementation Consulting teams.
  • Contribute to succession planning and talent development within the department.
  • Support resource planning across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Monitor project capacity, utilisation and delivery workloads.
  • Identify resource constraints and recommend allocation adjustments.
  • Support portfolio planning and project prioritisation activities.
  • Collaborate with departmental leadership to optimise delivery capability.
  • Drive improvements to project management methodology and governance frameworks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project profitability, delivery quality and operational efficiency.
  • Promote standardisation of project documentation, reporting and governance practices.
  • Leverage AI-enabled project management tools to improve planning, reporting, forecasting and delivery efficiency.
  • Contribute reusable templates, lessons learned and best practices to the organisational knowledge repository.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Implementation & Delivery department.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management or a related discipline.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional), preferred.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner, advantageous.
  • Agile Project Management, Scrum Master or SAFe certification, advantageous.
  • Programme Management certification, advantageous.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience managing enterprise software implementation or digital transformation projects.
  • Minimum 3 years leading complex, multi-workstream implementation programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Strong commercial, analytical and financial management capability.
  • Experience using project management platforms such as Microsoft Project, Azure DevOps, Jira or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, risk management and project controls.
