Position Summary
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Controls Engineer to join their team in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing project control services including planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and progress reporting on large-scale EPC projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, industry experience, and a solid understanding of engineering project lifecycles from initiation through to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using industry-standard software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project)
- Monitor and report on project progress, highlighting deviations from plan and identifying potential delays and cost overruns
- Implement and manage cost control systems, including budgets, forecasts, cost tracking, and variance analysis
- Prepare periodic progress and performance reports for internal and client stakeholders
- Conduct earned value analysis (EVA) to assess project performance against baseline
- Assist in change management processes by evaluating impacts of scope changes on time and cost
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment of schedules and budgets
- Support the project risk management process by identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies
- Ensure adherence to corporate project controls standards and procedures
- Participate in project audits and provide input to lessons-learned documentation
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in project controls within the EPC industry
- Proven experience working on large-scale infrastructure, energy, or marine projects
- Proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project, and cost control software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Strong understanding of EPC project lifecycles and contract types (e.g., FIDIC, NEC)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with international project standards and practices is preferred
