Senior Professional Nurse PICU

About the position

An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Professional Nurse to join a specialised PICU environment in Johannesburg North. This role is suited to a clinically strong PICU nurse who is confident managing critically ill paediatric patients and supporting high standards of nursing care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive, high-quality nursing care to critically ill paediatric patients in the PICU.
• Assess, monitor and manage patients according to their individual clinical needs and prescribed treatment plans.
• Recognise changes in patients' conditions and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Administer medication and treatments safely and accurately in line with established protocols.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation and patient records.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety and quality care standards.
• Assist with the coordination and implementation of nursing care within the PICU.
• Support junior nursing staff through guidance, clinical support and knowledge sharing.
• Work collaboratively with medical practitioners and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Contribute to maintaining a professional and efficient PICU environment.

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
• Current registration with SANC.
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a PICU environment.
• Sound knowledge of paediatric critical care nursing practices.
• Strong clinical assessment, decision-making and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity environment and remain calm under pressure.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and professional practice.
