About the position
A leading food manufacturing / FMCG company is looking for an experienced Senior Production Manager with strong experience in plant operations, food safety, and continuous improvement to join their team in Johannesburg. The role is responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring consistent production of high-quality, food-safe products, and leading teams to achieve efficiency, cost control, and compliance targets.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage overall plant production operations to meet quality, safety, cost, and delivery targets
- Drive food safety and quality standards, ensuring compliance with FSSC 22000, HACCP, and relevant legislation
- Build and sustain a strong safety culture across all production areas
- Manage production efficiency, yields, capacity, and scheduling adherence
- Implement and oversee preventative maintenance and TPM initiatives
- Control production costs, inventory levels, and raw material usage
- Lead, develop, and performance-manage production teams, supervisors, and team leaders
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives including Lean Manufacturing, TPM, OEE, and 6S
- Prepare and present operational reports and collaborate with supply chain, quality, engineering, and planning teams
Requirements:
- NQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial)
- SAMTRAC certification
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in FMCG or food manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a senior management role
- Strong experience in food safety systems, audits, and regulatory compliance
- Proven leadership experience in high-volume manufacturing environments
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, TPM, OEE, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and people management skills
- Computer literacy, including Excel and ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
