About the position

Core Responsibilities

The core purpose of the role is to execute the operational and tactical procurement of goods and services in the area of responsibility or business unit by implementing the day-to-day fulfilment/ purchasing of on-demand business procurement requirements. The incumbent is responsible for applying a consistent approach in line with the governance framework of the business. The incumbent is responsible for the release of the purchase order created in the system and provide supervisory and assurance role to procurement officers direct reports.

Key deliverables and outputs

  • Support and execute the operational and tactical procurement of goods and services in accordance with strategies, applicable policies, procedures and specifications.
  • Achieve the realisation of savings, supply efficiency, quality, and process improvements in area of responsibility
  • Provide Sourcing management and Operational Management with information and support for the integration volumes, processes, quality levels and prices into strategy development
  • Create purchase orders for supplies, equipment and services within authorised limits.
  • Release of the purchase order in the system and provide quality assurance
  • Support projects and initiatives in the area of responsibility.
  • Manage daily requirements and understand future demands
  • Communicate with internal users, specifiers, and suppliers in order to clarify operational issues
  • Follow up, expedite and ensure the goods and services ordered are delivered on time
  • Maintain ERP systems to ensure continuous support of the material and service requirements and accuracy of data
  • Act as the first point of contact for internal and external claim management
  • Conduct negotiation with suppliers for the acquisition of goods and services at competitive price
  • Address all day-to-day procurement issues relating with Tactical Sourcing
  • Identify local saving opportunities
  • Ensure policies and procedures are conveyed to end users in the procurement of goods and services
  • Initiate and support the RFx process as defined by strategy
  • Assure compliance with applicable laws, ethical standards, policies and codes of business conduct
  • Ensure that area of responsibility executes category strategy as required and agreed. Where compliance is an issue, help to find and eliminate root causes
  • Ensure that the procurement initiatives tracking tool is kept up-to-date for own initiatives and projects
  • Measure performance through KPI's according to existing templates
  • Track achieved results

Academic qualifications

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in procurement or related field such as Diploma in Procurement/ Purchasing/ Transport Management/Supply Chain Management or Logistics/ Finance / Business

Advantageous:

  • Chartered Institute for Procurement and Supply (CIPS) membership and/or accreditation (MCIPS preferably) - CIPS Global Standard - Operational Level

Note:

  • Valid Driver's license, Valid Passport

Work experience

Essential:

  • 3 - 6 years in procurement / strategic sourcing / category management / operational buying in the industry/area of responsibility
  • Exposure to supply chain management, strategic sourcing, and optimal procurement processes and standards
  • Proven track record of supplier relations management
  • Exposure in working on an ERP system (e.g. SAP, Oracle, etc.) executing Procure-to-Pay/ tendering processes.
  • Engaging at senior management level

Advantageous:

  • Proven track record of working within cross-functional teams, while successfully delivering on benefits and capability building agenda

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Broad knowledge of sourcing networks within the allocated Industry and business unit
  • Well versed in B-BBEE codes, supplier management requirements and tender processes
  • Knowledge of sourcing and supply chain management best practices and risks in allocated business unit such as counterfeiting, bribery and corruption, disruptive technologies, cyber attack
  • Working knowledge of business and transport related legal and regulatory aspects governing the business unit i.e National Road Traffic Act, OHAS, Sustainability and Environmental Affairs Act, B-BBEE Act
  • Basic financial and commercial acumen
