About the position
Leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Process Engineer experienced on water projects to join their Water team working on innovative and exciting infrastructure projects in South Africa and internationally.
As a key member of the team, you will deliver technical expertise across feasibility studies, investigations, and project inputs. You will respond to technical queries and contribute to the development of integrated, practical solutions. Your knowledge and design input will be instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and successfully.
- Develop and review process designs for potable water, wastewater treatment, reuse, and industrial effluent systems, including the preparation and verification of mass balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and process data sheets.
- Contribute to hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies and risk assessments, ensuring actions are effectively tracked and closed out.
- Compile technical reports, feasibility studies, and CAPEX/OPEX estimates to support project and investment decisions.
- Provide support during construction and commissioning phases, including site visits and responding to technical queries.
- Take on line management responsibilities, mentoring and supporting engineers and early-career professionals.
Requirements:
- Qualification in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or similar (BEng, BSc Eng, BEng Tech, BTech, Advanced Diploma).
- Professional registration with ECSA
- Demonstrated post registration expertise in a process design engineering role, ideally in a consulting environment or working closely with a consultancy.
- Experience with process modelling and analysis tools such as BioWin, GPS X, or similar.
- Good knowledge of potable water and wastewater treatment processes and technologies, including advanced treatment and reuse such as desalination, potable reuse, membrane systems, or similar.
- Minimum of 10 + years’ experience in water and wastewater treatment
- Experience of working in or leading process engineering across the full project life cycle
- Worked on international projects with multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience in participating in or leading process safety studies, including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL inputs (where required), and closing out actions
