About the position
Red Ember Recruitment are looking for a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Administrator with strong expertise in Sage 300 to take ownership of the full payroll function. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant execution of payroll, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems.
Reporting to the HR Operations Specialist, and collaborating closely with both the Finance and HR teams across various projects and strategic initiatives, this role requires someone who can perform under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Administer end-to-end payroll processing for all employees using Sage 300.
- Ensure compliance with local payroll, wage, laws and best practices.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes in pay or benefits.
- Reconcile payroll before transmission and validate confirmed reports.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports to Finance and HR departments.
- Manage year-end processes including, and other statutory filings.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries.
- Lead payroll audits and ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
- Stay current with changes in payroll laws and regulations and implement necessary updates in Sage 300.
- Employee Benefits Administration:
- Administer and reconcile employee benefits including medical aid, pension funds (Momentum), groups risks and other company-sponsored benefits.
- Ensure accurate deductions and contributions are processed through Sage 300.
- Liaise with benefit providers to manage enrolments, terminations, and changes.
- Provide support to employees regarding benefit queries and claims.
- Maintain up-to-date records of employee benefit selections and ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Assist in annual benefits review and open enrolment processes.
- Organisation Design Support:
- Collaborate with HR to support organisational design initiatives, including role mapping, job grading, and workforce structure alignment.
- Maintain accurate payroll and position data to reflect organisational changes in Sage 300.
- Provide payroll insights and analytics to inform workforce planning and restructuring decisions.
- Ensure payroll and benefits processes align with evolving organisational structures.
- Support change management efforts related to payroll and employee data during reorganisations or mergers.
Requirements - 5+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
- Proficiency in Sage 300 Payroll is required.
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience with multi-jurisdictional payroll (if applicable).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
