About the Role
Our client is looking for a Senior Network Cable Technician who takes pride in delivering clean, certified cabling installations. You’ll work on diverse projects across the country — from corporate office fit-outs to datacenter rack builds — and play a key role in mentoring junior technicians and upholding the companies high standards of workmanship.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and certify structured cabling systems (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A) to BICSI/TIA-568 standards.
- Commission and label patch panels, floor boxes, cable trays, and containment systems.
- Conduct cable certification and produce test reports using Fluke DSX or equivalent Network Qualification testers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity, signal degradation, and cross-talk issues methodically.
- Lead on-site teams of junior technicians — plan daily tasks, enforce quality standards, and conduct quality checks.
- Maintain accurate as-built documentation including floor plans, rack elevations, cable schedules, and test results.
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, and third-party contractors to ensure smooth handovers.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations on all job sites, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Keep up to date with evolving cabling standards, technologies, and industry best practices.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in structured cabling (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A). Proven competency in cable termination (RJ45, keystone jacks, patch panels) and testing to certification level. Practical experience with Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer or equivalent Network Qualification / Certification testers.
- Solid understanding of TIA/EIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801 cabling standards.
- Experience with fibre optic cabling — termination, splicing, and OTDR testing is a strong advantage.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport (national travel required).
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing small teams on-site.
- Nice-to-Have
- BICSI Installer Level 1 or 2, or equivalent industry certification.
- Experience in datacenter environments (hot/cold aisle, overhead and underfloor cabling).
- Familiarity with PoE (Power over Ethernet) requirements and standards (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt).
- Exposure to access control, CCTV, or AV cabling systems.
- Basic knowledge of IP networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, switch port identification).
