About the position
An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled Senior Network Administrator to support and maintain enterprise-wide network services. This role is suited to a professional with solid technical expertise in network infrastructure, strong operational experience, and a proactive approach to network security and performance.
As the Senior Network Administrator, you will work closely with the networking team and security specialists to manage network equipment, support virtual and physical servers, and contribute to network design, planning, and capacity forecasting. Your efforts will ensure the reliability and security of the organisation's critical network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities (amongst others):
- Maintain and manage networking switches and routers in coordination with the networking and security teams
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of system architecture and networking equipment inventories
- Manage maintenance, spares provisioning, capacity planning, and replacement of networking hardware
- Oversee the management of physical and virtual servers running Linux and Microsoft Windows Server environments
- Ensure network availability and manage server room networking infrastructure.
- Respond promptly to break-fix issues related to network equipment in collaboration with the networking team
- Support ongoing network improvements and assist with forecasting future network requirements
Minimum Requirements
Qualification(s) required:
- National Diploma in Engineering or Information Technology with 5+ years relevant experience; OR
- B.Eng or B.Sc Hons (Computer Science, Engineering, or related field) with 3+ years relevant experience
Experience required:
- Proven experience as a technical resource in network infrastructure management and support
- Hands-on experience with network operations, service support, and helpdesk collaboration
- Experience proactively monitoring and resolving network and IT issues
- Knowledge and practice of network security services implementation and maintenance
- Experience with virtual networks and namespace management
- Ability to interpret and update network design documentation
Knowledge and Skills:
- Documenting network architecture across OSI layers
- Operating systems: Windows, Linux (Debian/Ubuntu), and OS X
- Networking in virtualised environments, especially KVM via Proxmox, and containerised environments like Docker
- Networking security best practices, including firewall configuration and management
- Lifecycle maintenance and operation of networking equipment
- Identity and Access Management, Single Sign-On, and Federated Identity protocols (IdP and SP)
- Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and ICT operations
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, DNS, DHCP, OSI stack, VPNs
- Configuration experience with networking switches and routers such as Cisco, HPE, Mellanox, and Arista
- Use of networking monitoring tools and support packages
- Solid grasp of Linux operating systems, open-source software, and networking tools
- Strategic thinking and influencing skills in IT networking and security contexts
