Senior Materials Technician

About the position

An excellent opportunity exists for a skilled Senior Materials Technician to join our client's transport division in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing materials testing activities, maintaining quality standards, and supporting project delivery through accurate reporting and technical expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with company quality management procedures
• Oversee laboratory and site materials testing processes
• Evaluate test results and provide reliable reporting to project engineers
• Inspect construction activities and completed roadworks for quality compliance
• Assist contractors with technical guidance relating to materials and compaction
• Assess and report on asphalt and other mix designs
• Conduct monthly audits and maintain detailed project documentation
• Prepare monthly progress and quality reports
• Promote and enforce adherence to health and safety regulations on site

Candidate Requirements

• Grade 12 and a relevant National Diploma or equivalent qualification
• At least 5 years' experience in a Senior Materials Technician capacity
• Sound knowledge of SANS 17025 and laboratory auditing procedures
• Working knowledge of SANS 3001, SANRAL M2 Manual, and SABITA Manual 35
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans
