About the position
A growing professional services and fractional CFO firm is seeking an experienced Senior Management Accountant take technical ownership within its Management Accounting department based in Somerset West.
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of more complex clients, independently review management accounts and Annual Financial Statements, lead meaningful monthly client meetings, and provide technical guidance to junior team members. Responsibilities:
Management Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Independently review monthly management accounts prepared by trainees and junior accountants.
- Manage a portfolio of more complex clients.
- Draft and review Annual Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS for SMEs.
- Review provisional tax calculations, VAT and payroll reconciliations.
- Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting and cost modelling.
- Support audit and independent review processes, including resolving complex queries.
Client Advisory
- Lead monthly management meetings with clients.
- Provide meaningful financial insights rather than simply presenting historical results.
- Identify and communicate financial risks, trends and opportunities.
- Provide forward-looking financial guidance to support client decision-making.
- Confidently challenge or provide respectful pushback where appropriate.
Technical & Team Support
- Act as a technical escalation point for trainees and junior accountants.
- Review work and assist with technical accounting and tax queries.
- Support the development of junior team members through guidance and feedback.
- Identify and implement improvements within Management Accounting processes.
- Partner with senior leadership on ad hoc projects.
Requirements:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Completed SAICA or SAIPA Articles; CIMA candidates will also be considered.
- 5+ years post-qualification experience.
- Experience within an accounting practice, outsourced finance or professional services environment managing multiple clients is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing AFS and management accounts prepared by others, rather than only preparing your own.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs.
- Strong knowledge of South African tax, including VAT, income tax and provisional tax.
- Comfortable reviewing and providing guidance on junior employees' work.
- Confident leading client meetings and providing proactive financial insights.
- Proficiency in cloud accounting and AFS platforms such as Xero, Draftworx, QuickBooks or Sage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines effectively.
Advantageous:
- Previous team lead, supervisory or staff-training experience.
- Experience mentoring trainees through SAICA or SAIPA training programmes.
- Exposure to fractional CFO or Financial Manager environments.
- Experience working with international or cross-border clients.
- Interest in developing into a leadership, training or Fractional Financial Manager role.
