SENIOR LITIGATION AND COMMERCIAL ATTORNEY to be based in Mossel Bay
Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Litigation and Commercial Attorney to join their dynamic legal team.
Their company has been extensively involved in the full spectrum of property Development in the Southern Cape and Nationwide since 1994. Their expertise extends beyond conventional conveyancing work and includes inter alia negotiations with land owners, structuring of special purpose vehicle companies, joint ventures, drafting of HOA’s and related documents.
The ideal candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and bring extensive experience in managing complex litigation matters from inception to resolution while providing strategic guidance in commercial transactions.
This role plays a key part in upholding their firm’s reputation for excellence and ensuring superior client outcomes.
THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE ARE
NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- An LLB Degree with a minimum of 5 years’ post-admission litigation experience. Demonstrated expertise in High Court practice, including drafting, argument, and trial preparation skills.
- As they mainly service Developers and larger enterprises, knowledge in Conveyancing will be preferable. The ability to draft Commercial Contracts is essential.
- A proven track record in managing a broad range of disputes (commercial, civil, contractual) from inception to finalisation.
- Proficiency in legal systems and software such as Lexpro, LexisConvey, Lexis Protegé, and full competence in Microsoft Office for document drafting and reporting.
- A valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
WILL ALSO COUNT IN YOUR FAVOUR IF YOU HAVE:
- Admission as a Conveyancer and Notary.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE
- Managing and overseeing a broad range of litigation matters from inception through to finalisation, ensuring sound strategy and effective case management.
- Appearing in the High Court and other relevant forums, representing clients with professionalism and precision together with Council.
- Drafting and preparing pleadings, motions, heads of argument, contracts, formal legal opinions and briefs to Council.
- Conducting consultations with clients, counsel, and witnesses to advance case preparation and outcomes.
- Providing expert commercial legal advice, including on contract drafting, negotiation, and dispute resolution.
- Collaborating with and assisting the Director of Litigation and Commercial Work on complex, strategic matters and practice development initiatives.
- Maintaining high professional and ethical standards, ensuring all work aligns with firm policies and regulatory requirements.
- Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with clients through exceptional service and communication.
- Managing own caseload efficiently, ensuring compliance with firm standards and legal ethics.
