Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Infrastructure Technical Lead

Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer / Infrastructure Technical Lead to support an enterprise-scale IT infrastructure environment on a 12-month contract.
This role requires a hands-on technical specialist who combines deep infrastructure engineering capability with operational leadership and infrastructure governance experience.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, maintaining, configuring, and optimising enterprise infrastructure systems, while also providing technical leadership and supporting day-to-day operational stability.
Key Technical Requirements
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong, practical experience in the following areas:
- Server & Virtualisation Infrastructure
- Advanced VMware administration (vSphere / ESXi)
- Server hardware management (Dell / HPE or equivalent enterprise environments)
- Windows Server administration [Phone Number Removed];)
- Active Directory design, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Patch management and server lifecycle management
Networking
- Enterprise network configuration and support
- Strong understanding of routing and switching
- Cisco environment experience preferred
- Basic network security principles (firewalls, segmentation, access control)
Infrastructure Operations
- Incident and problem management (Tier 2/3 support)
- Service request management and operational support
- ITSM tool experience (e.g. ServiceNow or similar)
- Root cause analysis and escalation handling
Governance & Infrastructure Management
- Business continuity planning and disaster recovery support
- IT asset lifecycle management (procurement, maintenance, disposal)
- Infrastructure monitoring and availability management
- Support and enforcement of IT operational best practices and standards
Project & Delivery Capability
- Infrastructure upgrade and implementation experience
- Exposure to project delivery in enterprise environments
- Ability to support or lead infrastructure-related projects
- PMP / PRINCE2 certification advantageous but not mandatory
Leadership Requirements
- Ability to act as a technical escalation point
- Provide guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
- Translate architecture direction into practical implementation
- Work closely with IT operations and business stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capability
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 10+ years' experience in enterprise infrastructure environments
- Strong "hands-on engineer" profile (not purely architectural or managerial)
- Experience in large-scale IT environments (enterprise, banking, telecoms, government, or ISP environments preferred)
- Proven ability to work across servers, networks, and virtualisation layers
- Strong troubleshooting and operational stability focus
