Senior Electronics Technician at NRF National Research Foundation

About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint an experienced senior electronics technician for its Accelerator Operations and Technical Support department.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily operations of the Tandetron accelerator in accordance with the agreed beam schedule and qualityFirst-line maintenance of the Tandetron’s electro-mechanical and electronic systems through fault-finding and repairs of such systems as well as routine maintenance procedures
• Coordinate the provision of more specialized maintenance services to the Tandetron accelerator, such as vacuum and power supply maintenance
• Maintain statistical data and documentation on the Tandetron operational availability

Minimum Qualification:

• Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:

• 5-5 years

• NQF7/BTech (Electronics / Electrical Engineering) or equivalent

Experience:

• 5 years' technical experience in a computer controlled - and monitored environment of an electro-mechanical plant which include complete maintenance of all plant equipment
• Demonstrated ability to do fault-finding to component level
• Experience in a nuclear facility will be advantageous

Knowledge:

• Familiarity with concepts such as vacuum, beam diagnostics, high-voltage breakdown, etc
• Knowledge of electronic troubleshooting and use of tools of the trade such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes is necessary
• Basic understanding of radiation safetyBasic understanding of health and safety concepts related to high-voltage operation is essential
