About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint a Senior Electronics Technician within Accelerator Operations and Technical Support (ATS) Department, under the Control Electronics and Software Engineering (CESE) division.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily activities related to building, installation, testing, maintenance and repairs of control electronics, computer electronics and safety interlock electronics
• Compile technical documentation and product specificationsDesign and develop electronic modules or sub-modules for various control system and safety interlock system components
• Ensure effective management of critical spare parts for control system electronics
• Responsible for procurement of control and monitoring system components
• Ensure workplace health and safety compliance

Minimum Qualification:

• Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:

• 5-5 years

• B-Tech Electronics or Electrical Engineering or equivalent (NQF 7)

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years' experience in building, testing, maintenance and repairs of various electronic equipment including computer-controlled hardware and peripheral devicesPCB layout design and component soldering experience
• Experience in PLC programming
• Fault-finding from component to system level

Knowledge:

• Strong practical knowledge of working with control and monitoring systemTroubleshooting and repairs of control electronics and motion control systemsGeneral understanding of particle accelerators and related physics in a research environmentGeneral understanding of radiation safetyAdvantageous:Programming experience (PLC programming and/or embedded systems programming)Electronics design and circuit analysis experience
• Experience with Interlock Systems
• Good mechanical aptitude
• General understanding of particle accelerators and related physics in a research environmentGeneral understanding of radiation safety
