About the position
An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Electrical Engineer - Wind to join our client's renewable energy team in Cape Town. This role is suited to an experienced electrical engineering professional with strong exposure to utility-scale wind projects, MV/HV systems, and electrical balance of plant design. The successful candidate will play a key role across project development, execution, commissioning, and close-out phases while contributing to technically compliant and efficient project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development of technical base cases and electrical design criteria for wind energy projects
- Review technical documentation, grid connection requirements, and engineering contracts
- Assist with the preparation and evaluation of RFPs for WTGs, substations, and EBoP packages
- Contribute to MV collector system layouts, substations, and grid connection infrastructure
- Review conceptual, FEED, and detailed electrical engineering designs
- Validate MV/HV systems, substations, protection schemes, and cable routing designs
- Support testing, commissioning, grid compliance, and energisation activities
- Interface with EPC contractors, OEMs, and grid operators on technical matters
- Conduct site inspections to ensure installations comply with engineering specifications
- Support project close-out documentation, as-built drawings, and handover processes
Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electromechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years' electrical engineering experience
- At least 2 years' experience within wind energy projects preferred
- Strong MV/HV and electrical BoP experience
- Knowledge of grid codes and grid integration requirements
- Experience with FEED and detailed design review processes
- Exposure to ETAP, PSCAD, or similar software advantageous
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or related design tools
