About the position
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical & Automation Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Cape Town. This role is ideal for a technically driven professional who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept and design through to commissioning while delivering innovative automation solutions across a variety of industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop electrical designs and schematics using EPLAN or similar software
- Design industrial control panels and prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Programme PLCs using Siemens TIA Portal and/or Rockwell Studio 5000
- Develop SCADA and HMI applications
- Select electrical components and support procurement activities
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and workshop testing
- Provide site installation support and commissioning services
- Perform electrical and automation fault finding and troubleshooting
- Develop, maintain, and improve company electrical design standards
Requirements:
- BEng, BTech, or Diploma in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in industrial automation (8+ years preferred)
- Strong electrical design experience
- Proven PLC and SCADA programming expertise
- Experience with industrial instrumentation, including 4-20 mA, RTDs, Modbus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP
- Sound knowledge of MCCs, VSDs, motor control systems, and industrial control panels
- Willingness to travel for commissioning when required
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
