About the position

Postion Summary:
To lead and develop the workshop team, driving the operational readiness of the company's fleet. You will be responsible for maximizing vehicle and plant availability and utilisation by implementing safe, cost-effective maintenance strategies that meet and exceed rigorous technical standards..

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and Maintaining Existing Vehicles & Plants by applying technical and practical solutionsInspect and Maintain generators (power plants) by applying technical knowledge, skills and experienceInspect and maintaining trucks & mounted Cranes by applying technical knowledge, skills and experienceService any mechanical related equipment by applying technical knowledge, skills and experienceRFI compliance and awarenessEnsure effective communication with all visitors, SARAO staff, NRF, DST officials and international SKA staffSelf-development to remain abreast of technical and related developments Knowledge transfer to relevant stakeholders, i

  • Upskill local students through in-house practical training D/M and Snr D/MDevelop, prepare and present recommendations on all plant mechanical related matters as these relate to short- and medium term problems and challenges drawing on technical knowledge, skills and experienceResolve all fleet mechanical matters timeously by applying technical knowledge, skills and experienceEnsure that all work performed on fleet of plant is of high standard by applying technical knowledge, skills and experienceWork safely and cooperatively with co-workers and the public
  • Observance, adherence and application of safety standards and procedures in the work place
  • Mechanical experience / auto-electrical problems, the incumbent needs to make practical plans given isolationCompile RFO and RFQ incorporating technical and costing informationInitiate Procurement processes for timeous sourcing of spares, componentsWork efficiently to work within budget

Minimum Qualification:
  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate / National Certificate / Vocational 4 /N3 N4 N5/ NQF 4

Minimum Experience:
  • 10-10 years
  • NQF level 4 / Grade 12Diesel Mechanic Trade Test10 years' experience in civil plant and fleet management (minibuses / bakkies) maintenance
  • Civil plant experienceValid motor vehicle license – Code B (eligible for a Prof
  • Driving Permit)
  • EC (Code 14) preferred

Experience:
  • Experience on hydraulic systems, e

  • lifting equipmentAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities required for the role

Knowledge:
