About the position
Are you ready to build the data backbone behind one of the world’s most iconic alcohol brands? Our client a global powerhouse in brewing, manufacturing, and distribution is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join their high-impact AME Analytics Hub and help shape the future of data-driven decision-making across Africa & the Middle East.
Your Mission
You’ll design, build, and operate scalable, analytics-ready data pipelines across HDP, Data Prime, and Hub initiatives — ensuring high-quality, reliable data foundations that drive smarter business decisions.
You’ll also step in as an Interim Data Engineering Chapter Lead, mentoring engineers and shaping engineering standards across the Hub.
Senior Data Engineer:
· Implement and operate data models and transformations within established HDP and Data Prime pipeline frameworks, delivering scalable, production-ready datasets aligned to enterprise data standards.
· Develop analytics-ready datasets using Python/PySpark, SQL and dbt to support BI and Data Science use cases.
· Embed data quality, observability and monitoring to ensure reliable, high-performing data products.
· Apply Unity Catalog governance, security and access control patterns, including sensitive data handling.
· Partner closely with BI, Data Science and Product teams to translate business needs into robust technical solutions.
· Maintain CI/CD discipline, version control and testing practices; troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve pipeline resilience.
· Contribute to architecture and design discussions, acting as a senior technical authority within the Hub.
Data Engineering Lead:
· Provide people leadership, including regular 1:1s, feedback check-ins and coaching of chapter members.
· Mentor engineers on engineering best practices, modelling standards, code quality and delivery habits.
· Ensure consistent adoption of engineering standards, ways of working and reusable patterns across teams.
· Maintain visibility of chapter capacity and skills; support resource allocation and onboarding where needed.
· Act as an escalation point for complex technical challenges and delivery risks.
· Represent the Data Engineering chapter in Global and Hub forums, supporting alignment across chapters.
· Support roadmap planning and tracking by maintaining visibility of upcoming deployments, capacity constraints and delivery dependencies, proactively flagging risks and misalignment.
RequirementsWhat you bring:
· 5+ years’ experience in Data Engineering / Analytics Engineering
· Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or similar (or equivalent experience).
· Strong hands-on expertise in Python, PySpark & Advanced SQL
· Experience with dbt, Databricks (strongly preferred)
· Familiarity with Azure Data Services (ADLS, ADF)
· Experience with CI/CD, Git workflows & Agile delivery
· Ability to partner with Product, BI & Data Science teams
· Experience mentoring engineers or leading initiatives
