Senior Civil Engineer

About the position

We are currently recruiting a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer for a well-established consulting client in Cape Town. This is a senior, client-facing role suited to a professionally registered engineer with strong technical depth, leadership capability, and proven project delivery experience across municipal infrastructure projects.

The Role
You will act as Project Leader / Senior Design Engineer, taking ownership of civil engineering projects from inception through design, documentation, tendering, and construction. The role combines technical excellence, project management, mentoring, and client engagement, with involvement in business development and strategic growth of the division.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage civil engineering projects (roads, water, sewer, stormwater)
• Assist clients with project inception, feasibility, and cost estimates
• Perform and review complex civil designs (Civil 3D proficiency essential)
• Compile and review technical and project reports
• Prepare contract documentation, specifications, and tender documentation
• Administer and monitor construction contracts
• Manage project finances, manhour budgets, and resources
• Conduct design reviews and ensure ISO 9001 quality compliance
• Mentor and develop engineers, technologists, and technicians
• Support procurement of new work, tendering, and client engagement
• Contribute to staff planning, training, and divisional resource management

Minimum Requirements

• BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering
• Professional Registration with ECSA (Pr Eng) - essential
• 12-15 years' experience in civil engineering design, site supervision, and contract documentation
• Minimum 3 years' project management experience on Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) or similar projects
• Strong experience in municipal infrastructure design
• Proficient in Civil 3D
• Solid knowledge of South African engineering standards and municipal requirements
