About the position
A well-established and respected consulting engineering firm with a strong footprint in infrastructure and civil works projects, is currently seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join their team in Krugersdorp. This is a strategic hire aimed at bolstering the company’s high-caliber design leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineering staff.
- Sign off designs and drawings as the responsible Professional Engineer.
- Engage directly with clients on feasibility studies, project scoping, and planning.
- Lead and coordinate the execution of engineering design reviews.
- Ensure all work complies with the company’s Quality Management System (QMS), policies, and industry standards.
- Champion employee engagement through recognition, empowerment, and supportive feedback.
- Develop and standardize design tools, software, codes, and practices across projects.
- Assign and monitor work progress within design teams to maintain quality and timelines.
- Collaborate with contractors and construction monitoring teams during project execution phases.
- Manage technical deliverables such as reports, cost estimates, contract documentation, specifications, and manuals.
- Attend site inspections and meetings as necessary.
- Participate in business planning, contract negotiations, and training initiatives.
- Promote ethical engineering practices and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng or B.Sc. Eng).
- Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).
- Minimum 15 years of experience in civil engineering design and project delivery.
- Expertise in infrastructure-related design and planning.
- Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., GCC, FIDIC, NEC, JBCC).
- Proven experience managing large, multidisciplinary design teams.
- Advanced project management, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and engineering software tools.
- Excellent communication and technical report writing abilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of South African construction regulations and environmental legislation.
