About the position
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst, with supply chain experience to join our team based in Cape Town. Initial 12-month contract, onsite.
The Senior Business Analyst (Retail & Supply Chain) will play a pivotal role in analysing, designing, and optimizing business processes across retail operations, logistics, and supply chain functions.
This individual will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders—including merchandising, procurement, distribution, IT, and finance—to identify opportunities for improvement, define business requirements, and ensure successful delivery of initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements Management
- Lead end-to-end business analysis for projects within the retail and supply chain domains.
- Conduct detailed requirements gathering through workshops, interviews, and data analysis.
- Translate business needs into clear, comprehensive business and functional requirement documents (BRDs/FRDs).
- Ensure traceability of requirements through the project lifecycle and manage changes effectively.
Process Analysis & Improvement
- Map current (“as-is”) processes and design optimized (“to-be”) processes for retail operations, procurement, inventory management, logistics, and distribution.
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend data-driven solutions to improve speed, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
- Work with business and IT teams to ensure new processes and systems align with strategic objectives.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with business owners, project managers, solution architects, and technical teams to ensure alignment and understanding of requirements.
- Facilitate workshops and presentations with senior business stakeholders to drive consensus and decision-making.
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and business users throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Solution Delivery & Implementation Support
- Contribute to the development and validation of business cases, project scope, and solution options.
- Support testing activities by validating test cases and ensuring they align with business requirements.
- Assist with change management, training, and post-implementation reviews to ensure adoption and continuous improvement.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual thinking abilities.
- Excellent documentation skills (process flows, business cases, user stories, etc.).
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement and facilitation of workshops.
- Proficient in process modeling (BPMN / UML) and data analysis techniques.
- Ability to work independently on complex initiatives within dynamic retail environments.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate technical jargon into business language.
Technical & Domain Knowledge
- Retail: Merchandising, store operations, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and omnichannel retail.
- Supply Chain: Procurement, inventory management, warehouse management systems (WMS), logistics, and order fulfillment.
- Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.) is highly advantageous.
- Understanding of data-driven decision-making using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or hybrid delivery methodologies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or a related field (Honours preferred).
- Minimum 7–10 years’ experience as a Business Analyst, with at least 5 years in retail or supply chain environments.
- Proven track record of delivering end-to-end business analysis for system implementations or process improvement initiatives.
- Professional certification (e.g., CBAP, CCBA, Agile BA, or PMI-PBA) beneficial.
