About the position
We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper to take full ownership of our accounting function. This is a key role in our business - you will be the go-to person for all things finance and have the opportunity to build robust systems and processes from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
- Full bookkeeping function from start to finish up to Trial Balance
- Bank allocations and reconciliations (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Supplier reconciliations and payment processing
- Debtors management: invoicing, collections, statements, follow-ups
- SARS eFiling: prepare and submit VAT201 and EMP201 returns accurately and on time
- Payroll journals and reconciliation support (if required)
- Data analysis & reporting: monthly management accounts, cashflow tracking, variance analysis
- Process improvement: create & implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls
- System management: maintain and update QuickBooks Online & Sage One (ensure accurate data)
- Audit preparation: assist with year-end audit packs & liaise with external auditors
- Compliance: ensure VAT, PAYE, UIF submissions and statutory deadlines are always met
- Business support: partner with management on budgets, forecasts, and decision-making
Requirements
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience as a bookkeeper or senior accounts clerk
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Sage One (Sage Business Cloud)
- Experience with SARS eFiling (VAT201 & EMP201 submissions) is essential
- Proficient in Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, basic formulas)
- Excellent communication skills - able to chase, follow up, and present data clearly
- Detail-oriented and organised with strong problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently, take initiative, and own the entire bookkeeping process
- Experience setting up or improving accounting systems and processes will be an advantage
