Key Responsibilities:
As part of the company Data Science team, you will report directly to the Head: Data Science.
As a Senior BI Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the end-to-end BI lifecycle — from data flows and models, to cubes, reports, and templates — across both client-facing and internal initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring not only technical proficiency in BI, SQL, and Power BI, but also the senior-level expertise to drive innovation, define best practices, and establish BI architectural patterns that scale. You will collaborate closely with clients, Data Engineering, and other internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality BI solutions that unlock value from data collaborations on the company platform.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End BI Development: Design and implement BI solutions across the full lifecycle: data ingestion flows (via Synapse pipelines and stored procedures), semantic models, OLAP cubes, and Power BI dashboards and templates.
- Architecture & Standards: Define and enforce BI architectural patterns, governance practices, and reusable frameworks to ensure scalable, maintainable, and high-performing BI solutions.
- Client Engagement: Collaborate directly with clients and account managers to understand business needs, translate requirements into BI deliverables, and deliver insights through dashboards and reporting.
- Innovation & Best Practices: Stay at the forefront of modern BI approaches (e.g., lakehouse, Spark, Delta Lake, Azure Fabric) and bring new ideas to evolve the company BI practice.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with the Data Engineering team on pipeline requirements and design, ensuring BI models are optimized for analytics.
- Internal BI Support: Support the company leadership and internal teams with BI dashboards, reporting frameworks, and ad-hoc analysis that drive operational efficiency and decision-making.
- Performance Optimization: Tune queries, models, and reports to handle large- scale datasets efficiently within Synapse and Power BI.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and knowledge-sharing to junior team members and contribute to upskilling the broader Data Science and BI function.
Required Qualifications
- Education /Degrees: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field. Postgraduate degree preferred.
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in BI development, including end-to-end ownership of BI lifecycles, with a proven track record of leading BI innovation and best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in Power BI (including DAX, data modelling, report development, templates, and deployment).
- Experience and proficiency in multiple other BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, Looker, etc.), demonstrating versatility across BI ecosystems.
- Advanced SQL skills with proven experience in Azure Synapse Analytics (dedicated/serverless SQL pools, stored procedures, performance tuning).
- Experience with OLAP cubes, semantic models, and data warehousing concepts.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT processes (preferably using Synapse Pipelines) and working closely with Data Engineering.
- Understanding of data lakehouse concepts and modern BI integrations with Spark/Delta Lake.
- Proven ability to design BI architectural patterns and enforce governance best practices.
- Experience working with large datasets, retail data, or marketing analytics is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with software development best practices in BI/analytics environments, including modular development, version control (Git), automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
Advantageous Skills & Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (DA-100 / PL-300)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)
- Exposure to Azure Fabric, Databricks, or similar lakehouse technologies.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Strong problem-solving ability with a focus on technical delivery excellence.
- Ability to translate business requirements into BI solutions with clear, actionable insights.
- Confident engaging with clients and stakeholders at a senior level while keeping technical focus.
- Effective communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
- A collaborative mindset, able to work cross-functionally with Data Engineering, Data Science, and Account Management teams.
- High attention to detail, with a commitment to producing accurate, scalable, and reliable BI solutions.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
