About the position
Our Durban-based head office client is looking for a seasoned and experience BI and Data Analyst to be part of the design, development and implementation of their new BI solution.
Be part of the project from the start to end, working as the inhouse resource and portfolio owner alongside the external BI Consultants. This role will then expand to become the Business Analyst in the BI space and the future senior BI resource in the team.
The team currently consists of a senior Data Analyst and the vision to expand the team further with this role plus additional resources in the future.
MAIN ROLE:
- Business Analyst in the BI space within a retail-based business.
- Strong BI and Database skills to suport the external consultants in the solution implementation and become the future senior Analyst in the team. The initial project will be a good way to get to grips with the business, existing apps, data and the business needs.
- Strong analytical skills to play a data mining role and to provide ad hoc analysis of data as and when required.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in IT or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as an SQL/BI database administrator or in a similar role.
- Business analysis and data analytics experience – must be able to function as a business analyst in determining the needs of the business, and provide data analytics on an ad-hoc and explorative basis.
- That is: the encumben must have the ability to gain understanding quickly of the business and the data to provide feedback to the various parts of the business on insights that are not part of the normal, regular reporting mechanisms.
- Retail industry experience is a not negotiable - preferably in the FMCG Retail space. An understanding of business practices in the RETAIL space is a minimum requirement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Specifically BI related DB architecture – building and improving as needs require – functional understanding of business applications to be able to quickly understand the base data and therefore the business requirements so that the BI solution can fully support the growing needs in this area.
- Understanding of PowerShell & SQL scripting, stored procedures, triggers etc.
- Experience in administrating databases on SQL Server.
- Perform regular database maintenance, install latest SQL patch, upgrade DB and application, while also designing and implementing new databases.
- Create and produce ad-hoc report as per business/user requirement.
- Identify potential problems, provide technical expertise and propose viable solutions.
- Monitor and maintain database storage, database health, performance and sustainability.
- Produce and maintain Power BI and SSRS reports.
- Manage SQL Replication, database backup strategies and perform recovery in case of disaster.
MAIN REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience on SQL Server, specifically in the BI environment.
- Specialist PowerBI experience.
- 5 - 8 years of data engineering and BI experience.
- Business Analysis experience.
- BI solution design and implementation would be adv.
