About the position

ENVIRONMENT:

Our client is a technology and digital solutions provider that designs, develops and maintains bespoke software solutions addressing real business challenges. They help organisations transition from traditional desktop computing to cloud-based environments while providing practical guidance, implementation and governance across digital transformation and Generative AI integration. They are seeking a Senior Node.js/TypeScript Backend Developer a  for 6–12-month contract role within a merchant card machine division. The successful candidates will focus on backend development within the web layer of the card machine platform, collaborating closely with engineering teams working across Kotlin and Java environments.

Merchant Card Machine Environment:

• The merchant card machine operates as a web-based device. Transactions move from the web layer into a Kotlin-based core payment processing environment before returning to the web layer, which uses TypeScript, JavaScript and related technologies.
• The current web layer contains legacy components, with a longer-term objective of migrating the platform to Kotlin. New functionality is presently developed within the web layer where this supports faster delivery and is later migrated to Kotlin. Both technology stacks therefore remain actively used.
• The security layer controlling merchant access and functionality on the devices is implemented in Java and operates separately from the web stack.

REQUIREMENTS:

Technical Requirements:

• Senior-level backend development experience using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong JavaScript development experience.
• Experience developing reliable and scalable backend services and APIs.
• Ability to work effectively within the web layer of the card machine technology stack.
• Comfortable collaborating with teams working in Kotlin and Java.
• Experience within payment processing, merchant services or device-based environments would be advantageous.
