About the position
We are seeking a Senior AI Engineer to lead the evolution of a next-generation, AI-enabled Payments ecosystem.
This is a strategic and hands-on role for someone who can bridge business, architecture and technology, shaping the future of Payments operations while delivering practical automation solutions that create measurable value today.
What You'll Do
Lead Payments Transformation
- Assess and map end-to-end Payments processes, including reconciliations, reporting, controls and audit functions.
- Identify operational bottlenecks, integration challenges, manual processes and capability gaps across the Payments landscape.
- Develop and maintain a strategic automation roadmap, prioritising initiatives based on business value, scalability, operational efficiency and regulatory considerations.
- Partner with stakeholders to define the future-state vision for an AI-enabled Payments operating model.
Design the Future-State Architecture
- Architect an AI-native Payments platform that integrates seamlessly with existing systems while supporting future transformation initiatives.
- Design intelligent agent-based solutions, data pipelines, integration frameworks and reporting capabilities that enable scalable automation.
- Implement an agentic Payments layer that enhances current operations, automates key workflows and supports a phased migration towards a modernised architecture.
- Evaluate and simplify existing technology platforms to improve efficiency, maintainability and long-term scalability.
Drive AI Governance and Responsible Automation
- Ensure all AI and automation initiatives align with governance, compliance and risk management requirements.
- Define appropriate controls, auditability, access management and monitoring frameworks for automated processes.
- Design solutions that maintain operational integrity and transparency within highly regulated environments.
- Establish best practices for AI adoption, oversight and ongoing risk management.
Build Sustainable Capability
- Develop reusable frameworks, standards, templates and reference architectures that accelerate AI adoption across the organisation.
- Define metrics and reporting mechanisms to measure business outcomes, including efficiency improvements, cost savings, risk reduction and return on investment.
- Support the growth of AI capabilities within Payments teams through mentoring, knowledge sharing and enablement initiatives.
- Contribute to the broader AI Centre of Excellence, helping shape enterprise-wide standards and practices.
Collaborate Across the Business
- Work closely with Payments, Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, Compliance, Audit and Business stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
- Translate business objectives and operational challenges into practical technology solutions and implementation roadmaps.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Influence decision-making through strong stakeholder engagement and trusted advisory capabilities.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in AI Engineering, Solution Architecture, Automation Engineering, Data Engineering or a related technology discipline.
- Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale AI, automation or digital transformation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of AI platforms, LLM orchestration, agentic systems and intelligent workflow automation.
- Hands-on experience with technologies such as Spring AI, Python, Claude/Anthropic APIs, OpenAI, n8n, Power Automate, Camunda, Apache Airflow or similar platforms.
- Experience integrating enterprise applications, APIs, data platforms and financial systems.
- Knowledge of governance, compliance, risk management and audit requirements within regulated environments.
- Strong architectural thinking with the ability to design scalable, future-ready technology solutions.
