About the position
Senior Accountant (Commodity Trading & Logistics)Hire Resolve is seeking an analytical, commercially astute Senior Accountant to join a leading mining, commodity trading, and bulk materials logistics group based in Illovo, Johannesburg. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this role takes complete ownership of trade costing models, landed cost calculations, vessel/trade profitability, inventory accounting, and management reporting across complex bulk commodity supply chains.
Key Performance Areas:
- Trade & Vessel Costing Models: Prepare, maintain, and refine detailed costing models for commodity trades, contracts, bulk shipments, and vessel logistics.
- Profitability & Margin Analysis: Perform actual vs. expected gross margin analysis on trades and vessels, evaluating profitability by commodity, customer, supplier, contract, and shipment.
- Landed Cost & Logistics Accounting: Calculate and analyze landed costs, incorporating transport, rail freight, port handling, storage, stockpile management, and statutory logistics charges.
- Inventory Accounting & Controls: Oversee inventory accounting, stock reconciliations, accruals, cost allocations, and foreign currency exposure tracking across trading operations.
- Management Reporting & Financial Modelling: Compile monthly management accounts, variance analyses, budgets, and cash flow forecasts; conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis for commodity price, FX, and logistics rate fluctuations.
- Commercial Decision Support: Partner with Finance, Trading, Operations, and Logistics teams to analyze proposed transactions and implement robust financial controls over trade costing.
Minimum Requirements:- Education: Relevant Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Cost & Management Accounting. CIMA, CGMA, or similar professional designation is highly advantageous.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ relevant finance, costing, or management accounting experience, ideally within commodity trading, mining, bulk materials, or logistics environments.
- Industry Domain Knowledge: Demonstrated exposure to bulk commodities (e.g., coal, anthracite, coke, minerals) and vessel/trade execution is highly advantageous.
- Technical Mastery: Advanced practical experience in trade costing, landed cost allocation, inventory accounting, and foreign currency risk evaluation.
- Systems & Computer Competency: Advanced MS Excel skills, financial modelling expertise, and extensive experience working with ERP/accounting systems handling large datasets.
Position Details:- Location: Illovo, Johannesburg, Gauteng (Onsite).
- Remuneration: R600 000 - R700 000
- Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent.
