About the position
Our client, a growing accounting firm that is offering a range of services to small and medium-sized businesses is currently looking for a Senior Accountant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are either currently pursuing their SAIPA qualification or who are newly qualified and are eager to develop their accounting skills and grow within the firm.
Job Overview:
As a Senior Accountant, you will assist in providing essential accounting services under the guidance of senior team members. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks including preparing financial statements, submitting income tax returns (individuals, companies, CC's and trusts), and assisting with payroll and VAT returns. This is a hands-on role where you'll have the opportunity to gain valuable experience.
Please note that this position is a office based role at their offices in Edgemead.
Key Responsibilities: (but not limited to):
- Assist in Financial Statement Preparation: Assist in drafting financial statements in accordance with the applicable accounting standards.
- Support Income Tax Returns: Help prepare and submit income tax returns for individuals and businesses, ensuring they meet compliance with South African tax laws.
- Support Secretarial Function: Help prepare and submit relevant secretarial declarations as well as process any changes required, ensuring they meet compliance with South African tax laws.
- Assist with Payroll Reconciliations and other relevant declarations: Support payroll processing, including payroll tax calculations and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. Including Annual and Bi-Annual payroll submissions for SARS and COIDA.
- VAT Submissions: Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns for clients.
- Provide training to Junior staff members: Our firm employs junior trainee accountants who need assistance with training and support, and you will be expected to assist with their development when required.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to gather necessary financial information and assist with resolving queries under supervision.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to senior partners, ensuring smooth client deliverables and internal operations.
- Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities to further your knowledge and experience in accounting.
Inherent requirements of the role:
Educational Requirements:
- A relevant degree or diploma in Accounting (e.g., BCom Accounting, Diploma in Accounting).
- Completed SAIPA articles or at least being in 3rd year, alternatively actively pursuing SAIPA membership or recently qualified Professional Accountant.
Experience:
- At least 2 - 3 years in accounting or bookkeeping is required. Exposure to an accounting firm environment is required.
Skills & Competencies:
- A solid understanding of accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software, including Xero, Sage, Pastel, Simple Pay, Caseware, Greatsoft, QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing financial information.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
