About the position
Strategic Academic Leadership
- Lead teaching, learning, research, and academic engagement within the department
- Co-develop departmental goals and annual plans with the Dean
- Joint accountability for programme budgeting and academic performance
- Ensure strategic delivery of teaching and learning plans
- Drive curriculum innovation, relevancy, and future-focused programme design
Operational & Staff Management
Manage and mentor academic staff within the department
- Teach 12-15 hours per week (contact or distance)
- Oversee workload allocation and staffing plans
- Manage staff development, grievances, and departmental team culture
- Collaborate with campus managers and Academic Heads across business units
- Address student queries, programme concerns, and escalations
- Support online learning development and delivery
Participate in institutional marketing, PR, and student recruitment initiatives
Teaching, Learning & Student Experience
Develop, review, and moderate academic materials and assessments
- Ensure consistent teaching standards across campuses
- Enhance curriculum design based on internal and external review cycles
- Promote innovative technology and media in learning
- Drive student success strategies to improve progression and throughput
- Oversee assessment security, moderation, and academic compliance
Engage with students and parents, providing mentorship and pastoral support
External Stakeholder Engagement
Build partnerships with industry, agencies, government, NPOs, and academic bodies
- Develop Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and live brief opportunities
- Explore bursaries and sponsorship partnerships
Strengthen graduate employability through industry collaborations
Academic Management & Governance
Ensure departmental efficiency, facilities readiness, and resource availability
- Maintain governance standards, reporting accuracy, and risk management
- Drive cost-effective academic delivery and resource allocation
Foster professional conduct, values-driven culture, and staff wellbeing
Policy & Compliance
Implement teaching and learning policies and academic procedures
Ensure thorough staff induction on policies and academic expectations
Quality Assurance & Academic Excellence
Support institutional academic campaigns and strategy
- Track and report on student performance, progression, and graduation rates
- Oversee moderation cycles, exam verification, and academic documentation
- Review Moodle content, module outlines, and learner materials regularly
- Conduct diagnostic analysis of academic results
- Promote digital library usage and integration of academic resources
- Lead lecturer evaluations, development plans, and peer review processes
- Manage WIL activities, showcases, client briefs, and student initiatives
- Oversee awards submissions and collaborate with finance on entries

Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field (progress toward PhD advantageous)
- 3-5 years' higher education experience, preferably in an academic leadership role
- Ability to lecture 12-15 hours per week (3-4 modules)
- Proven research, academic scholarship, and publication record
- Experience supervising postgraduate students
- Experience coaching and managing lecturers
- Strong background in curriculum development and academic quality assurance
- Professional board registration where applicable
- Willingness to be based at a designated national campus
- Experience developing executive/industry courses (advantageous)
- Media or thought leadership contributions (advantageous)
