About the position
Westfalia Fruit Estate, situated in Tzaneen, has a vacancy for a suitably qualified and experiencedSection Manager.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the production unit through the effective utilization of all its natural, human, and financial resources to maximize production yields and quality on the farm whilst controlling costs.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or relevant qualification
- Over 3 years' experience working on a subtropical fruit farm
- Training in the accreditations relevant to the production of export fruit and experience in the implementation of these accreditations
Knowledge:
- Subtropical fruit production, specifically avocados
- Human resources management
- Health and Safety standards and regulations
- Ethical standards and basic labor law
- Irrigation, fertilization, punning, and insect and disease control
- Farm mechanization
- Fertigation systems, specifically through low-flow drip irrigation
Skills:
- An inherent ability to manage orchard health so as to optimize fruit size and quality
- Inspire farm staff to be productive and create innovative ways of working
- Communicate clearly, both written and verbal, to all role players
- Handling employee discipline
- Attentive to detail and administratively strong
- Meaningfully manage team performance
- Good computer skills
- Excellent driver in all terrain
