Job Description
The Scrum Master serves as a servant leader and facilitator, enabling the team to deliver value effectively by removing impediments, promoting collaboration, and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement. The Scrum Master creates the conditions for high-performing team dynamics, sustainable delivery flow, and Agile excellence.
Working closely with a self-organising and self-managing cross-functional team, the Scrum Master supports the achievement of team goals, facilitates Agile ceremonies, and drives the continuous delivery of high-quality solutions. Through coaching, mentoring, and fostering accountability, the Scrum Master empowers teams to improve their effectiveness, adaptability, and overall delivery outcomes.
- Agile Development Team Facilitation
- Lead Scrum ceremonies, remove obstacles, and facilitate problem-solving, collaboration, and conflict resolution to enable the most effective work delivery by development and operational teams.
- Agile Release Planning
- Support Agile release planning by enabling teams to effectively plan, coordinate, and deliver releases in alignment with business priorities. Foster collaboration, transparency, and proactive risk management to ensure business value is realised.
- Agile Backlog Management
- Continuous review of the product backlog and reprioritize the work and deployment of team members to reduce costs and increase the value of the work delivered to the business.
- Culture of Recognition and Motivation
- Promote a culture of recognition and motivation by fostering an environment where achievements are celebrated, contributions are valued, and team members are encouraged to perform at their best. Enable collaboration, engagement, and continuous growth through positive reinforcement and meaningful recognition.
- Cloud Strategy Projects Execution
- Execute and deliver elements of the Cloud roadmap, leveraging Agile and design-thinking principles to drive sustainable implementation.
- Project Risk and Issue Management
- Identify and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints associated with the strategic initiatives, escalating matters where appropriate. Where necessary, develop, agree on, and implement solutions to overcome these concerns.
- Project Capacity Management, Work Scheduling and Allocation
- Assist the Team lead with reviewing and assigning strategic initiatives and ad-hoc work to the team in order to achieve expectations while following established timelines.
- Tracking team availability and identifying resource constraint
- Carry out delegated activities to support the deployment and effective utilization of project resources.
- Team Enablement Continuous Improvement
- Enable and coach high-performing Agile teams through servant leadership, data-driven insights, continuous improvement, and effective stakeholder engagement. Foster accountability, transparency, collaboration, and a culture of learning while leveraging Agile metrics to identify improvement opportunities, remove impediments, enhance delivery predictability, and drive quality outcomes and business and customer value.
Qualifications Required
- NQF Level 7 - Degree, Advance Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate or equivalent
Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required
- 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or lead role applying Agile and Scrum practices in an infrastructure or IT operations environment. Must have a Scrum Master Certification.
- Deep understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or LeSS) and experience applying them in regulated, high-availability environments.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure technologies and concepts – such as cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure), networking, servers, storage, and ITIL processes, enabling effective facilitation and collaboration with engineering and support teams
- Proven experience leading cross-functional agile teams delivering cloud-native solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Demonstrated ability to remove complex impediments across both tech and business domains.
- Strong facilitation of all Scrum ceremonies, along with servant leadership and team coaching skills.
- Proficient in agile metrics tracking (velocity, throughput, lead and cycle time, etc.) and using data to improve delivery performance.
- Skilled in Agile tooling such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, Miro or Rally.
- Comfortable working with DevOps teams, CI/CD practices, and modern software delivery pipelines.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
