About the position
We are seeking an experienced SAP Functional Consultant (Chief Expert) to support and enhance global Payroll and Benefits solutions within a large, complex enterprise environment. This role focuses on operational payroll execution, functional configuration, and ongoing support across multiple countries, ensuring accurate payroll processing and compliance with statutory, collective, and company requirements.
The successful candidate will work within a global Agile environment, collaborating with business stakeholders, external service providers, and cross-functional IT teams to maintain high-quality payroll operations and continuously optimize processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and provide operational support for payroll runs across multiple countries
- Provide functional support to business teams and stakeholders
- Configure and maintain payroll schemas, rules, and wage types
- Translate business requirements into SAP Payroll configuration
- Perform functional testing and support System Integration Testing (SIT)
- Manage and resolve incidents and service requests within SLA timelines
- Troubleshoot payroll issues and drive process improvements
- Respond to stakeholder queries in a timely and professional manner
- Ensure data accuracy, compliance, and high-quality payroll outcomes
RequirementsEssential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in SAP HCM Payroll (operations, support, or development)
- SAP HCM Payroll certification
- Expert hands-on experience with SAP Payroll configuration (schemas, rules, wage types, customizing)
- Strong knowledge of SAP HCM modules (PA, OM, PT)
- Deep understanding of payroll processes, controls, and best practices
- High attention to detail and strong quality focus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, global team environment
Advantageous Skills
- Country-specific payroll knowledge (e.g., ZA, DE, AT, GB, US, HU, CN, MX)
- Experience with off-cycle payroll processing
- SAP technical exposure (forms, printing solutions, RFCs)
- Experience with ticketing tools such as ServiceNow or Jira
- Familiarity with ITIL processes
- Experience working in multinational, large-scale enterprise environments
