About the position
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy Development:
- Develop and execute a sales strategy to achieve business objectives and revenue targets for the tool and plant hire division.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to identify new business opportunities and adapt strategies accordingly.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of sales representatives to achieve individual and team targets.
- Provide training and guidance to sales staff, ensuring they are well-equipped with product knowledge and sales techniques.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, offering feedback, support, and development plans.
Business Development:
- Build and maintain relationships with key clients and prospective customers within the construction, engineering, and related industries.
- Identify new opportunities for expanding the company's customer base, including cold calling, networking, and attending industry events.
- Negotiate and close large-scale contracts for the rental of tools, machinery, and equipment.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Manage and grow relationships with high-value clients to ensure long-term business partnerships.
- Act as the primary point of contact for major accounts and resolve any customer issues or queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure high customer satisfaction levels, encouraging repeat business and referrals.
Reporting & Performance Tracking:
- Prepare and present regular sales reports and forecasts to senior management, highlighting achievements, areas for improvement, and strategic recommendations.
- Analyze sales data and KPIs to assess team performance and adjust strategies to ensure targets are met.
- Maintain an up-to-date CRM system to track customer interactions, sales activities, and pipeline management.
Market Analysis and Competitor Intelligence:
- Conduct market research to understand customer requirements, industry trends, and competitor offerings.
- Monitor competitor pricing and service offerings to ensure the company remains competitive within the market.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all sales staff adhere to company and industry safety standards, particularly when recommending and promoting tools and equipment.
- Educate customers on the safe use and maintenance of rental equipment.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Experience:
- Proven track record of successful sales experience in the tool and plant hire industry or a similar field (construction, engineering, or heavy machinery).
- Experience in leading and managing sales teams with the ability to inspire and drive results.
- Strong understanding of plant, tools, and machinery, as well as the rental market.
Skills:
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Ability to identify new business opportunities and develop strong customer relationships.
- Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- High organizational and time-management skills.
Qualifications:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in business, sales, or a related field is desirable but not essential.
- Health & safety certifications related to plant and equipment (e.g., IOSH or similar) are a plus.
