About the position

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Strategy Development:

  • Develop and execute a sales strategy to achieve business objectives and revenue targets for the tool and plant hire division.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to identify new business opportunities and adapt strategies accordingly.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of sales representatives to achieve individual and team targets.
  • Provide training and guidance to sales staff, ensuring they are well-equipped with product knowledge and sales techniques.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, offering feedback, support, and development plans.

Business Development:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients and prospective customers within the construction, engineering, and related industries.
  • Identify new opportunities for expanding the company's customer base, including cold calling, networking, and attending industry events.
  • Negotiate and close large-scale contracts for the rental of tools, machinery, and equipment.

Customer Relationship Management:

  • Manage and grow relationships with high-value clients to ensure long-term business partnerships.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for major accounts and resolve any customer issues or queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction levels, encouraging repeat business and referrals.

Reporting & Performance Tracking:

  • Prepare and present regular sales reports and forecasts to senior management, highlighting achievements, areas for improvement, and strategic recommendations.
  • Analyze sales data and KPIs to assess team performance and adjust strategies to ensure targets are met.
  • Maintain an up-to-date CRM system to track customer interactions, sales activities, and pipeline management.

Market Analysis and Competitor Intelligence:

  • Conduct market research to understand customer requirements, industry trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Monitor competitor pricing and service offerings to ensure the company remains competitive within the market.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure all sales staff adhere to company and industry safety standards, particularly when recommending and promoting tools and equipment.
  • Educate customers on the safe use and maintenance of rental equipment.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
Experience:

  • Proven track record of successful sales experience in the tool and plant hire industry or a similar field (construction, engineering, or heavy machinery).
  • Experience in leading and managing sales teams with the ability to inspire and drive results.
  • Strong understanding of plant, tools, and machinery, as well as the rental market.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Ability to identify new business opportunities and develop strong customer relationships.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • High organizational and time-management skills.

Qualifications:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in business, sales, or a related field is desirable but not essential.
  • Health & safety certifications related to plant and equipment (e.g., IOSH or similar) are a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • High level of commercial awareness and business acumen.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Customer-focused with a solution-oriented approach.

***Salary - R40,000.00. - R60,000.00. (Negotiable based on skill, experience & current package)
