About the position
Large, well established and very profitable Group is seeking a 'Sales Driven' General Manager for one of their businesses to oversee all business activities relating to sales and after-sales, parts planning and distribution in South Africa as well as managing neighbouring and Sub-Saharan countries. This role includes all organisational matters including the effective management of staff. Direct Subordinates who form the Management Team are: Sales Manager, Customer Services Manager, Parts Manager and Manufacturing Manager. There is great emphasis in this role on business development and sales. Customers include the Mine Owners/Mining Houses and Mine Contractors. This candidate will also concentrate on short-term and long-term profitability with focus on agreed annual and mid-term targets in sales, market share and customer service. In addition, stock holding needs to be optimised with emphasis on spare parts, controlling WIP and ensure sustainable growth.
Key performance areas, inter alia, include:
- Manage, motivate and oversee 200 staff in this business with particular attention on directing and leading the Management Team
- Ensure efficiency, effectiveness and operations are at the very highest of standards and achieve customer satisfaction and sales/service excellence through a variety of Excellence Programmes
- Develop and enforce business plans, budgets, investment plans and targets with key staff, especially in consultation with factories requirements and guidelines in respect of personnel, stock, sales and assets
- Manage working capital efficiently and effectively with reference to inventory, WIP and accounts receivables
- Drive, develop and maintain high level relationships with national and global customers and follow through to ensure satisfactory project delivery and customer service
- Monitor pricing of competitors and make proposals for pricing strategies for products, services and contracts
- Ensure compliance with Group policies, guidelines and directives. Furthermore, enforce compliance with legislative, regulatory and authority requirements including training
- Manage employee and industrial relations including resolving work related problems and dealing with disputes including disciplinary procedures
- Drive and support BBBEE and Mining Charter requirements in accordance with Group BEE strategy.
Requirements:
- Applicable tertiary qualification which can be an Engineering under-graduate degree or diploma plus a business post-graduate course or certificate. Must have extensive experience at senior level in the Mining Sector with specific emphasis on general management as well as business development, sales and after-sales.
- Results orientated strategic thinker with clear future vision, strong business development & sales skills and with the ability to exploit new opportunities, customer and service orientated, excellent management skills and ability to delegate tasks as well as leading by example.
- Self-confident, assertive, responsible, displays initiative and is innovative, energetic and performs well under pressure.
- Successful candidate must have business & commercial acumen and a results orientated finisher.
