About the position

About The Opportunity:

Imagine bringing affordable banking to everyone.
Imagine making groceries accessible to every household.
Now imagine doing the same for eye care.
This opportunity forms part of a new retail healthcare concept focused on making quality prescription glasses affordable and accessible to underserved communities.
Millions of people live with poor eyesight simply because vision care is expensive or difficult to access. This business exists to change that - delivering affordable glasses, professional service, and trusted community presence at scale.
This is a purpose-driven commercial business with strong social impact at its core.
Better vision improves:

  • Learning outcomes for students
  • Employment opportunities
  • Safety and productivity
  • Confidence and dignity

The Diepsloot store is already established, and we are looking for someone who wants to immerse themselves in the community, grow with the business, and play a meaningful role in improving people's lives.

The Role:
We are seeking a Sales & Administration Associate who is:

  • Confident and outgoing
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse communities
  • Passionate about helping people with health-related needs
  • Energetic, reliable, and trustworthy
  • Excited about community-based work

This role suits someone who enjoys working with people, being visible in the community, and contributing to real social impact.
This is more than retail - it is productive health work that directly helps people overcome vision challenges.

Role Purpose:

The Sales & Administration Associate is a frontline position combining:

  • Customer service
  • Sales support
  • Administration & operations
  • Community outreach and education

You will support a busy optical store environment while ensuring customers receive a welcoming, efficient, and high-quality experience.
This is a non-clinical role.

All medical and optometric services are performed by registered professionals.
Your responsibility is to ensure the customer journey runs smoothly from entry to collection.

Key Responsibilities:
Customer Experience & Sales

  • Welcome and guide customers through their full store journey
  • Assist customers in selecting frames suited to their needs and budgets
  • Explain product options clearly and honestly
  • Deliver respectful, friendly, professional service at all times
  • Build trust in a community where service quality truly matters

Community Outreach & Health Engagement:
A key differentiator of this role.
You will:

  • Participate in mobile vision screenings 2-3 days per week
  • Engage with schools, colleges, churches, and workplaces
  • Speak confidently to groups about eye health awareness
  • Support outreach logistics and event setup
  • Act as a positive health ambassador within the community

We are specifically looking for someone who is confident and comfortable with presenting and engaging at educational institutions and community spaces.

Administration & Operations:

  • Register customers and manage appointments
  • Process payments (cash, card, lay-by, insurance)
  • Maintain accurate records and follow-ups
  • Support daily cash reconciliation and reporting
  • Ensure efficient store administration

Orders & Supplier Coordination:

  • Capture and manage lens and frame orders
  • Follow up with suppliers and laboratories
  • Manage collections and customer notifications
  • Assist with stock tracking and organisation

Customer Relationship Management:

  • Follow up with customers regarding collections and satisfaction
  • Maintain strong ongoing customer relationships
  • Help build long-term community trust

General Store Operations:

  • Maintain cleanliness and professional store presentation
  • Support queue management and patient flow
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures
  • Contribute to a high-performance team environment

Working Hours & Schedule:
This position operates within standard retail trading hours.
Applicants should be comfortable with:

  • Working retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
  • Rotational shifts aligned to store trading times
  • Occasional extended hours during busy periods
  • Participation in community outreach activities, which may sometimes start earlier or finish later than normal store hours

The store environment is customer-facing and high-energy, and flexibility is important to ensure excellent service delivery to the community.

Who Will Succeed in This Role:
This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Enjoys helping people solve real-life problems
  • Is confident starting conversations with strangers
  • Feels comfortable speaking to groups or communities
  • Wants to work in meaningful healthcare-related services
  • Is proud to represent a business within their community
  • Is motivated by purpose as much as income

We are looking for someone who can truly become part of the Diepsloot community, not just work in it.

Requirements:
Non-Negotiable Values

  • Integrity
  • Strong work ethic
  • Genuine customer care

Required Capabilities

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal confidence
  • Attention to detail
  • Comfortable using technology and systems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience

  • Retail, sales, or customer service roles
  • Administrative or POS system experience
  • Community-based or township market exposure
  • Optical or healthcare exposure advantageous (training provided)

Working Environment:

  • Busy, high-volume retail healthcare setting
  • Combination of in-store work and field outreach
  • Community-focused operations
  • Collaborative team supporting optometry professionals

Career Growth:
This opportunity offers strong long-term potential for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Leadership ability
  • Community engagement skills
  • Operational excellence
  • Commitment to the mission

As the business expands, growth and development opportunities will follow.

What Success Looks Like:
A successful associate:

  • Delivers outstanding service with confidence and warmth
  • Helps customers make informed choices
  • Keeps operations accurate and efficient
  • Builds lasting trust within the community
  • Represents the organisation with professionalism and integrity
  • Brings positive energy to a fast-moving team

Make Work Matter:
This role offers the chance to do work that improves lives daily - helping people see clearly, participate fully, and move forward with confidence.
If you are looking for purpose, people, and growth, this could be the right opportunity for you.

***Salary - R10,000.00 - R15,000.00 (Negotiable, based on skills, experience and in relation to current package)
