About the position
Red Ember Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of our client for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Salaries Controller, based in Phoenix, Durban. The ideal candidate will report directly to the Remunerations and Benefits Practitioner and will be responsible for the full payroll function across various staff categories. This position is suited to someone with solid experience in payroll administration, statutory compliance, and employee benefit processing, preferably within a large and fast-paced environment.
- Processing salaries for the entities under the control of the company for various staff categories: permanent, fixed term, contractors and bi-weekly paid employees.
- Link all new employees on the payroll – define pay run definitions, verify personal details, applicable earnings, deductions, company contributions and fringe benefits
- Create and link employees to positions under the job management module
- Utilise the Kronos Time and Attendance system to extract employees overtime hours and allowances for processing
- Administer and accurately process statutory deductions and employee benefits while ensuring all HR policies and labour legislation are adhered to
- Administer the payroll process of employees being on Total or Temporary disability
- Action checklist as per the SharePoint termination workflow for employees being terminated
- Processing yearly increases and bonuses
- Prepare and timeously submit bi-weekly and monthly payroll audit reports for sign off prior to the release of salary payments to employees
- Loading ACB file for employees’ nett pays
- Payslip distribution and attending to all payroll queries
- Prepare and timeously submit reports / schedules for third party payments and ensure they are processed and paid over
- Submitting of retirement fund claims for terminated employees
- Loading of staff expenses for payment weekly
- Completing of UIF documents for employees terminated, on maternity leave or being medically boarded
- Complete the remuneration requirements on the report of accident claim form for employees injured on duty for submission
- Administer and maintain the ESS leave system. Create leave workflows, approver and impersonation groups and user profiles
- Monthly UIF submissions
- Prepare EMP201's monthly schedules for submission
- Prepare the annual COID schedule for submission
- Prepare monthly payroll journals
- Assist with the EMP501 tax year end procedures and distribution of IRP5’s
- Reconciliation of salaries-related general ledger accounts
- Assist with annual salaries forecast and budget
- Engage in any payroll projects assigned to
- Overtime and leave reports for Management
- Payroll Reporting and employee stats
- Assist with the internal and external payroll audit process
- Attend to administrative tasks within the payroll department
- Adhoc projects and tasks
Requirements
- Matric. An accounting background: tertiary qualification would be an advantage
- 7 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll administration is essential
- Payroll qualification / completed courses
- Sage People 300 – full knowledge & experience is essential
- Kronos Time and Attendance exposure would be an advantage
- Good understanding of payroll principles and practice (policies and procedures)
- Working knowledge of employees’ tax legislation
- Knowledge of benefits administration, legislative deductions, and 3rd party administration
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (excellent command of Excel)
- Must have a high stress tolerance and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

- The ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and integrity
- Willing to work flexible hours as and when required
