VACANCY: SAFETY OFFICER
Location: Tumela, Thabazimbi

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Grade 12 or N3 Equivalent qualification
• Minimum of Grade 12 Certificate
• Must be in possession of a valid Certificate of Fitness (Red Ticket)
• SAMTRAC, COMSOC 1 and 2 or equivalent HSE qualification
• Valid Trade Test
• Valid Code 08 Drivers License
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a mining environment, with specific focus on TMMs, Strong Knowledge & experience in underground mining
• In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and related regulations
• Strong computer literacy (MS Office, safety software)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct regular inspections and audits on TMMs and related operations to ensure compliance with mine health and safety regulations
• Monitor operator compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), PPE use, and safe work practices during TMM operations
• Investigate incidents and near misses involving TMMs, prepare reports, and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions
• Assist in the development and review of TMM-specific risk assessments, safe work procedures, and training materials
• Facilitate and participate in TMM safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety awareness campaigns
• Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure safe mechanical and operational conditions of TMMs
• Stay informed on legislative updates and ensure the mine’s TMM operations meet all legal requirements (e.g., MHSA, DMRE guidelines)
• Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, and risk registers related to TMM operations
• Provide TMM safety training and induction to new employees and contractors as needed
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risk and improve safety performance in mobile equipment operations
WORKINGCONDITIONS:
• Primarily site-based at the mine with exposure to underground or open-pit environments
• Physically demanding and requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Occasional extended hours or emergency response situations may apply
