About the position
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
HIRA
- Assist management & supervision in compiling HIRA's for their areas
- Ensure compliance to the legal requirements (OHSAct, NEMA & other related legistation) and develop measures to address/mitigate risks.
- Provide inputs into any Modifications, Works Programs & Authorizations for production facilities
ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification
- Maintaining certification for the organisation/site
- Compile, review and audit of procedures and systems
- Assist in the closing of findings after certification audits
- Participate in audits & inspections
Emergency Preparedness
- Participate in Emergency exercises for the site
- Respond to all emergencies, as required and be on standby
- Ensure all plants have emergency plans, coordinators in place
Compliance to SHE management system
- Conduct audits and inspections of plants to ensure compliance & conformance
- Perform planned task observations at the plants
- Non-conformances and deviations are identified and corrected
- Unsafe acts and conditions identified and reported to management using the CAR system
Incident management
- Investigate incidents for the site
- Reporting of incidents to Department of Labour
- Compile incident investigation reports, as per the clients reporting standards
- Ensure Corrective/Preventative Actions are implemented to prevent recurrence
Communication and Awareness
- Participate & Attend SHE/R meetings
- Issue Safety Alerts & Infograms relating to SHE
- Investigate and follow up on complaints from employees, as well as from outside the company.
- Communicate legal updates to the relevant plants and management
- Communicate statistics and trends to employees at various platforms
Legal
- Ensure the site & its plants have all Permits, licenses, certificates, authorizations required to operate ("Licence to operate")
- Ensure compliance to the requirements of any permits, licenses, certificates or authorizations.
- Ensure Legal compliance audits are conducted and all findings addressed for the site/plants
- Ensure that all legal appointments are up to date.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree/B-tech in Environmental or Safety Management (safety management preferred)
- At least 3 years' experience working in a manufacturing/chemical/production environment performing a similar role
- Experience within explosives environment will be advantageous
- ISO 14001 & ISO 14001 Implementation
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
- Waste Management Course
- Incident Invstigation course
- SAMTRAC (desirable)
- Driver's License: Code B.

About The Employer:
Our client in Somerset West is looking for a SHE officer to join their team on a contract basis.
The SHE Officer will be responsible in providing an integrated SHE Management service to ensure identification and management of SHE risks within the client sites. The incumbent will be responsible for the identification and management of risks and implementation of measures/initiatives that improves the safety in the workplace and supports the long-term business interests of the client.
