About the position
A leading industrial and manufacturing company in South Africa is seeking three experienced Safety Engineers to join its Iron Making Primary Operations Division. This role is ideal for technically strong professionals with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering and a passion for occupational safety.
Requirements:
- B.Eng Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 8/10)
- Diploma in Safety Management or NEBOSH IGC certification (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years in a safety engineering or safety risk management role
- Experience in industrial, steel, manufacturing, or heavy engineering environments
- Strong knowledge of the OHS Act and risk management
- Understanding of HIRA, PSIFs, and incident investigation
- Technical proficiency in mechanical, electrical, thermodynamics, materials science, and automation principles
- Advanced computer literacy (MS Office, safety tracking systems)
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct facility, process, and equipment inspections to identify hazards
- Lead the implementation of safety risk management strategies
- Conduct and review HIRA, manage anomalies and incident close-outs
- Provide engineering-based guidance on hazard controls and risk elimination
- Support with safety training, coaching, and stakeholder engagement
- Monitor and report on safety KPIs, PSIFs, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work closely with the GMR 2.1 and GM on all safety and compliance actions
- Lead safety aspects of shutdowns, maintenance planning, and new installations
