About the position

SARAO has an opportunity for a Safety Coordinator to join our team based in Carnarvon, Northern Cape. The successful incumbent will provide a support funtion to the Karoo site as well as leadership of the operational implementation of the day to day Health & Safety (H&S) responsibilities assigned.

Purpose:
The successful incumbent will be responsible for the monitoring, inspection, and coordinating of the development and implementation of the SHEQ Department objectives on-site, through appropriate measures which result in a safe and health work environment.

Minimum education required:

  • National Diploma in Safety Management
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH
  • SAIOSH Registered
  • SACPCMP Registered -Project / Construction
  • HIRA Risk
  • Computer literacy, particularly, MS Word, Excel, MS Project
  • A valid driver's license

Minimum work experience required:

  • 3 years' plus experience in a similar position or discipline

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement Standard Working Procedures (SWPs), as appropriate and mainly for technical and operational specialist areas, and preventative safety measures.
  • Issue Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Northern Cape Site operations staff, if and when required in accordance with approved PPE standard and subject to designation by SHEQ Department.
  • Support the SHEQ department in carrying out risk analyses for mostly technical areas, and implement approved recommendations.
  • Contribute and Implement approved operational H&S policies and procedures (incl. SWP), as appropriate
  • Ensure appropriate and sufficient Northern Cape site staff are fulfilling duties of safety support
  • Contribute to the Health and Safety Committees meetings on a yearly quarterly basis
  • All other related duties
