About the position
Introduction
The core functional areas of this role are system management, planning, capacity utilization, transport optimisation and cost management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage routing and delivery schedule for customer deliveries across all DC's within designated SLA's.
- Measure Transportation spend and optimization network.
- Determine the correct routing by balancing the workload across the different route type.
- Utilize planning software (Plato) to plan correct number of delivery routes based on the orders necessary to meet the business requirements.
- Utilize resources at the best possible capacity with no impact on customer service or operational demand.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with internal customers in Distribution, Operations, and Sales to ensure complete customer satisfaction and clarify expectations.
- Analyse routing parameters and location-specific geography and recommend enhancements to initiate fleet cost savings.
- Work with Operations and Distribution leaders to forecast labour and equipment needs.
- Recognize departmental and organizational needs and develop action plans to help meet those needs.
- Balance driver and truck schedules in DC to optimize driver/vehicle KPIs such as on-time delivery, reduced KM, and reduction in trips, as well as strict adherence to avoid illegal Over time.
- Ensure that the planning tool and database is up to date.
- Updating/adding customer GPS co-ordinates.
- Ensuring the product master is up to date.
- Adding new customers including change of hand customers (removing old accounts).
- Ensuring customer restrictions are in place i.e., site restrictions, Halaal or generic.
- Ensure customer NDD's are up to date and accurate.
- Updating customer delivery windows.
- Adding customer delivery days.
- Updating customer delivery days and removing old days.
- Updating customer NDD's to drive a better volume smoothing plan.
- Ensure the least cost daily route plan is achieved with the available fleet.
- liaising with the operational team to with vehicle availability.
- Using the planning tool to drive down costs i.e., planned KM, Hours, Trips and vehicles.
- Using the planning tool to drive route efficiency to ensure on time customer service.
- Use of the planning tool to reduce planned over time within the organization.
- Reporting on excessive KM/Hours/trips executed by the operational team.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Certificate/Diploma in logistics/supply chain management.
- 2-3 years in a logistics/transport planning environment.
- FMCG experience is compulsory.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ms office, Planning tool (Opsi Products, preferably PLATO) and WMS system knowledge.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to develop cross-functional/customer relationships and interact effectively with others in a team environment.
- Time management and ability to adhere to strict deadlines.

- Ability to work in a team.
