About the position
Role Summary
To identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the supply chain operations within a retail distribution centre. The Risk Manager SC ensures compliance with internal controls, regulatory frameworks, and operational standards, while supporting strategic decision-making and safeguarding assets.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Degree or diploma in Risk, Safety, OHS, Enigineering or similar
SAMTRAC / NEBOSH ideally required or strongly preferred
Exposure to facilities and technical infrastructure
Experience in a 24/7 FMCG / warehouse environment
Professional certification (e.g. OHASA, SAMTRAC, NEBOSH) advantageous
Minimum 5-7 years' experience in risk management, compliance, or auditing
Experience in Supply Chain, Logistics
Strong knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks
Understanding of financial controls and governance principles
Proficiency in MS Office and risk management systems/tools
Excellent report writing and presentation skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Identify operational, safety, security, compliance, and supply chain risks within the distribution centre.
Conduct regular risk assessments and maintain risk registers.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management.
Driving compliance with OHASA, SANS standards, and other relevant regulations.
Supporting food safety (HACCP).
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.
Develop and monitor safety programs, incident prevention measures, and emergency response plans.
Implement measures to prevent theft, fraud, vandalism, and inventory shrinkage.
Oversee physical security systems such as access control, CCTV, and alarm systems.
Ensure adherence to legal requirements, industry standards, company policies, and audit requirements.
Monitor changes in legislation that may affect distribution centre operations.
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning
Develop and maintain contingency plans for disruptions such as fires, power outages, cyber incidents, natural disasters, or supply chain interruptions.
Coordinate recovery efforts to minimize operational downtime.
Investigate accidents, security breaches, near misses, and operational failures.
Conduct root-cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Design, implement, and monitor controls to reduce identified risks.
Work closely with operations, warehouse, transport, and IT teams to strengthen risk management practices.
Conduct risk, safety, and compliance training for employees and contractors.
Promote a risk-aware culture and communicate risk-related issues to management and stakeholders.
Overseeing facility maintenance, contractor management, and cost control.
24/7 nature of the environment (weekends, after-hours, and on-site visibility).
Managing incidents, claims, and full end-to-end risk management.
Leading teams and ensuring appropriate performance management.
Taking responsibility for overall risk management and facilities oversight at the DC, including compliance, audits, and day-to-day operational risk control.
